Glory’s Lone Pheasant Hunt

Our Pheasant season started the middle of October here in WI. We are fortunate to have public land owned by the Department Of Natural Resources. This is state owned land that is open for public hunting. We live very close to two different property’s that have many acres. Each hunter is allowed two roosters a day while out hunting. When I go hunting I take all three dogs because I want them all to get exercise and enjoy in the hunt. They all can’t retrieve a bird since I can only get two birds and there are three dogs so someone always misses out. This year Gambler has really excelled in hunting and has turned into the bird hog, he is so clever and fast he gets there the fastest and won’t give up his bird.

Glory can't catch the gman.

So since I feel Glory has been getting  jipped (well Nellie has been getting  jipped too but she has had many years of pheasants) we decided to finally let some of our pheasants out of our pen and do a little pheasant hunt at our house. My friend Ross came over to hunt with John and I video taped and took pictures. I set out 6 hens for Glory in the marsh and the hunt was on.

Yippeeee it's all me me me.

Glory’s first pheasant just sat there and wouldn’t get up so he got that one herself. I should have a video of it by the end of the week.

Glory was in her glory and really excelled in her pheasant hunt. Nothing to worry about her hunting abilities, just get her away from the bird hog and she can get her own birds. Good job Glory!

I would like to hunt with you together :o) What will you do with the pheasants? Is there a trick to prepare them? We’ve got one once from a hunter and it was not eatable (maybe this one was a prehistoric bird).

Wow, you got some really great shots of the hunt…and so glad Glory got some one on one time. 🙂 With multiple dogs it is hard to balance who gets to do what sometimes…Leah doesn’t enjoy “excursions” very much, so that helps a bit…but I know Toby often looks sad when I take Medi to school, but I remind myself that he’s got years of classes under his belt, at one time he was going three times a week!

You got some really beautiful pictures. I had to laugh about the birds that got away. A lot of that goes on around here too…lol. Glory did an excellent job. I bet you were happy. 🙂
