Nothing But Norman #125

Happy Saturday All!
Nothing But Norman

The WI duck hunting season is coming to a close. I only got out once to hunt ducks this fall, I did other hunting with the gang. We have public hunting grounds near our house that we will go to. The marsh isn’t very clean and back in 2008 when I went with Norman the water was down so it made it extra muddy. Norman looked like a black lab when we were done hunting. I couldn’t edit my photos, rotate or copy write them as for some reason I saved them in a read only feature.

He was a very happy boy this day, me not so much as I had to bathe him when I got home.

Have a great weekend.

Thank you all who left me a comment on Nothing But Norman #50, the ones that wanted to be entered into the drawing for a paracord collar were:

#1 jenn richardson
#2 marty
#3 mollie and alfie
#4 jenna
#5 MK Clinton
#6 Dogs n paws
#7 Susie and Ziva
#8 cathy connolly
#9 Rascal and rocco

This is who Random.org said the winner is:

How appropriate that Susie and Zena won today as Zena is Gamblers sister and Norman’s Granddaughter. Don’t fret others there will be more chances to enter and win a collar so stay tuned a give away might just pop up when you least expect it.

Here is a picture of Norman with Ziva and Gambler with Ziva. These were taken at a hunt test near Ziva’s home. The pups were about a year old in the picture.

I’ve been wearing this necklace for a month now. My friend Nicole from Alred Photography and That Girls Stuff  got me this little bottle to put Norman’s ashes in. I wear it everyday never taking it off. When people talk to me about Norman I say “do you want to say Hi to him” and I hold up the necklace, you should see their faces! Then they all say “hi” to him. I just love this necklace, he is always by my heart now. I did have to superglue the little screw into the cork and super glued the cork into the bottle. It is holding strong.

Norman’s ashes in a little bottle.

Old Dog in a Locket

Old dog in a locket

That lies next to my heart

I will always love you

As I did right from the start.

You were right beside me

Through the darkest of my days

It was your kind and gentle nature

That made me want to stay.

Now I hold you in my arms

Your breath still warm against my hand

Our hearts still beat together

And I wonder if you understand.

Through the hours that I held you

Before the light did leave you soul

I knew a way to keep you

Forever in my hold.

I snipped the hair from around your eyes

So I would always see

The beauty that surrounds me

Even in times of need.

I snipped the hair from around your ears

So I would always hear

Music in the distance

To quite any fears.

I snipped the hair from across your back

To bring me strength in time of need

And the power of your essence

Would always be with me.

I snipped the hair from around your heart

That beat in time with mine

So I would know that love would find me

At some distant time.

And so, your life slipped out of mine

On a quiet Winter like day

But I knew that a part of you

Was always here to stay.

Old dog in a locket

That lies next to my heart

I will always love you

Even though we had to part.

Tomorrow will mark 8 months since the passing of Norman. I still think of him each and everyday and miss him more and more. Every now and then he will come to me in a dream and sometimes he will come to me in others dreams. Tuesday at work my boss came to me and told me she had a dream about Norman and I. I had told her about my hunt test weekend with Gambler on Monday so she went home and had a dream. She told me she was watching us compete and Gambler failed his water blind so she came up to me and told me that Gambler did a great job despite his fail and I looked at her and said “this is Norman”! She said “you were running Gambler, Norman is dead”. I said “Norman isn’t dead you gave him the osteosarcoma shot and he is alive now”. Needless to say my boss said she shouldn’t read veterinary journals before she goes to bed. I thought it was cute.

Since Glory (Norman’s Granddaughter) passed her UKC HRC Seasoned test last weekend and I showed the ribbon pictures of her on my blog earlier this week I thought I would show you Norman’s ribbons from his UKC HRC Finished tests. He didn’t go through all the beginner tests he jumped right into Finished and went 7-7.

This past week I got a email from one of Nellie’s puppy buyer’s (Norman’s grandson) from her and Tiny’s 2009 litter. They bought a male puppy and named him Junior. Junior lives in Iowa and is lucky enough to live in a hunting household that also owns a hunt club and he is the designated pick up dog for the hunts. The past two weeks he has been hunting hard and has retrieved 180 snow geese. What a life, every hunting dogs dream.

IMG_20140322_104801193 IMG_20140322_181342256 IMG_20140322_184411888 IMG_20140322_185440817_HDR IMG_20140323_113309960_HDR

This is what Junior’s owner says: We shot over 180 birds the last two weeks. He was the only dog in the field. He is so awesome. he had some blind retrieves that blew my mind, over the terrace’s and down the hill, then he would appear with the bird. You guys would be so proud of him!! I swear a couple of the guys fell in love with him. We joked that we should not leave JR and them alone in the same room!!!

Getting emails like this makes me so happy. So glad Junior is living the life and that his owners love him to pieces. This all wouldn’t of happened without Grandpa Norman to start out the family tree.

Now on to Sepia Saturday with our host Ruckus The Eskie.

May You Always Have an Angel by Your Side

May you always have an angel by your side

Watching out for you in all the things you do

Reminding you to keep believing in brighter days

Finding ways for your wishes and dreams to come true

Giving you hope that is as certain as the sun

Giving you the strength of serenity as your guide

May you always have love and comfort and courage

And may you always have an angel by your side

Someone there to catch you if you fall

Encouraging your dreams

Inspiring your happiness

Holding your hand and helping you through it all

In all of our days, our lives are always changing

Tears come along as well as smiles

Along the roads you travel, may the miles be a thousand times more lovely than lonely

May they give you gifts that never, ever end: someone wonderful to love and a dear friend in whom you can confide

May you have rainbows after every storm

May you have hopes to keep you warm

And may you always have an angel by your side

Angel Norman is with me always, I wouldn’t have it any other way! Have a great weekend all!

Lately I don’t have time to miss Norman as he or his kids pop in on me and keep my mind off of his passing. This week was a really proud moment for me as I saw one of Norman’s puppies on a Bayer Advantage Multi ad. Last summer I got a call from one of my puppy buyers telling me he just finished a photo shoot with his dog Annie for Bayer Advantage Multi. He said out of (I believe if I remember correctly) 150 different dogs Annie got chose to be the dog for their new ad they were putting out for Advantage Multi. He took her several days and she got her picture taken inside and outside and had a blast at it. They told him she was so well behaved and was a natural. They asked him if they could continue to use her for photo shoots and I believe they signed a 5 year contract. I didn’t know when the ad was coming out or if I would ever see it. Even know I work at a clinic we don’t use too many Bayer products or have a sales rep so I didn’t know who to contact to see the ad. While hanging out on Facebook this week the ad finally appeared, I confirmed with the owners of Annie if that was indeed her and it was! What a happy dance moment. Annie is Gamblers full sister and is out of Norman, HRCH Sand Spring Norman Of Caroway MH    x      HRCH UH Hope Springs Dowry MHR***. I couldn’t be more proud, her picture is going to be all over nationwide. Thanks to Ken & Joy for raising such a beautiful girl and getting her picture on a advertisement for a well known company. Here is the photo.

The below picture I submitted to Retriever Journal as a subscriber photo. I had done it awhile ago so I totally forgot that I did it and forgot what photo and narrative I sent in. It was a bittersweet surprise when I got out magazine and saw it. Norman keeps popping in to say hi after he is gone which I am so grateful for.

First off I have to say a big THANK YOU to my dear friend Dina who made me this beautiful bracelet in memory of Norman. The love for Norman still keeps coming in and I am so blessed to have such wonderful friends that make me smile when the days are sad.

We are still in the polar vortex here in WI. Freezing cold snowy weather. So I dug into the archives for some more baby pictures of Norman just after we got him playing in the snow.

013 014

They claim we are going to have freezing weather though out February. So we will go back in time or so it will look like with baby Norman and John’s nephew in Sepia for our Sepia Saturday Blog Hop with Ruckus The Eskie.

003

John has twin nephews that were born in 1995, Brandon and Jordan. This is one of them holding baby Norman Christmas of 2000. I don’t know which one this is and at this years Christmas I asked John’s sister Kathy, her husband Gary, Grandma, the twin boys and their sister Becca which one this was and no one really knew. They thought Brandon but couldn’t be sure. I got a kick out of it!

Hope everyone has a great weekend and have a happy Sepia Saturday.

A HUNTING DOGS PRAYER

I thank Thee, Oh Lord, for the rivers, woods, and fields wherein lie the game birds I love to hunt. I thank Thee also for the men and women who protect and preserve wild life in all its forms so that future generations will have the healthful pleasures of hunting and fishing. My master means more than life or death to me and I pray for intelligence, ability, and strength to understand and execute his or hers commands and desires. May our companionship lead to complete understanding so that our moments will be the happiest of all. Help my master to comprehend that I will gladly give my life for them, be they millionaire or pauper. Their love and confidence is all I ask. I beseech you to guide him or her and protect them from thoughts, deeds, or actions which will disturb the faith of others in them. I want my master to be respected by their friends as I look up to them. The wag of my tail indicated the feelings of my heart and no blows, privation, or hunger will ever keep me from being happy when I hear my master’s voice or footsteps. When the curtains of death are about to close my active life, I pray Thee, Oh, God, that my master be near, their hand caressing my head as my eyelids close.

Where to Bury a Dog

But there is one best place to bury a dog. If you bury him in this spot, he will come to you when you call – come to you over the grim, dim frontiers of death and down the well remembered path to your side again.
And though you call a dozen living dogs to heel, they shall not growl at him nor resent his coming, for he belongs there. People may scoff at you, who see not the lightest blade of grass bend by his foot-fall, who hears no whimper, people who may never really have had a dog. Smile at them, for you shall know something that is hidden from them.

The one best place to bury a good dog is in the heart of his master.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Peace!
