3rd Annual ACC WI Chessie Fun Day ~ April 28th 2018

The day started welcoming all our guest and a special welcome to the newbies to Stancerville and the fun day.

The morning started out with coffee and donuts.

New to this years fun day was the Patti Schroeder memorial card raffle. Patti passed away in Feb so she couldn’t attend the fun day in which she attended the prior two years and did a fantastic job handling the raffle tickets. She was greatly missed this year and was with us in spirit. The proceeds from the card raffle went to CRROW to help out the chessie’s that are rescued in WI.

My friend Mike makes killer Grandma Vern’s spice which he donated to the fun day. The proceeds made from the sale of the spice went to CRROW as well.

Let the games begin, the itinerary for the day.

Also new to this years fun day was the ability to test your pooch in the AKC S.T.A.R. , CGC (canine good citizen), CGCA (community canine), CGCU (canine good citizen urban) and UKC SPOT (socialized pet obedience test).

AKC S.T.A.R., CGC and UKC SPOT testing.

Thank you to Tom Pawlisch of Crawfish Chesapeakes and Polly from Canine Solutions LLC for being the testers for the day. They tested 35 dogs in the various tests.

We had a display set up recognizing the 100 year Anniversary of the American Chesapeake Club, thank you for your time and love of the breed. We also recognized Sandy at Cur-San kennels for her involvement with the chesapeakes, weather it is with breeding, mentoring or helping out the club she has her hand in it.

Congrats on 100 years ACC, and 50 years to Cur-san kennel.

Another new demonstration for the fun day was a carting demo put on by Jim Perry who also does the lure coursing and Teresa S. Teresa brought her rotties that she does carting with and took me on a ride around my driveway while Jim explained the art of carting.

Rufus the Newfie couldn’t be left out as he carts as well. Pam and Rufus gave carting rides to the children present.

During lunch or while hanging out in the shed checking out all the raffles The History of the Chesapeake Bay Retriever was playing on a TV screen. It was really cool to come into the shed and seeing guest sitting down in front of the TV watching the history. It is a fantastic video sold through the American Chesapeake Club.

This year we had a pig roast along with a pot luck. The food was awesome and just love trying a little of this and a little of that.

Information on the American Chesapeake Club along with membership information and overall chesapeake information was available.

Free goods were provided by Fromm’s Family Pet Foods and Boehringer Ingelheim. If you missed my thank you to the donors you can read it here.

Land and water mock hunt tests were set up. The dogs had a great time retrieving their live and dead flyers. The puppies even had a chance to retrieve wings and small birds.

Lure coursing was a big hit again, this marked the second year Jim and his wife came and set up their course. They will continue to come until they can’t anymore.

Everyone who attended the fun day brought a dog related item for the raffle table. So many nice items you could win. This helps put on the event for the next year. I can’t thank everyone enough for bringing an item and for buying raffle tickets.

One of our guest brought an old hunt test premium and put it on display. It was interesting to see what it was like in 1986.

A old hunt test premium.

The fun day is for young and old….kids and puppies what’s not to love about getting them involved?

New friendships were made and old friends got to meet up again and hang out. We are growing each year with our attendance. In 2016 which was the first year I hosted the fun day we had 45 people, 34 dogs, 0 shirts as they weren’t offered. In 2017 we had 70 people, 23 new ones, 54 dogs and 79 shirts sold. In 2018 we had 82 people, 31 new, 69 dogs and 96 shirts sold.

We ended the day with a shed antler demo put on by Brian Schlomann. Each year he does such a nice job explaining what it is and how to get your dog to participate. Just another venue you and your dog can explore.

Thank you all for the great day. You all volunteered and made it possible for this day to be a hit. It takes a village to pull a day with this many people and dogs off and you did it! Till next year get out there and do something with your chessie!

Here is the write up that will be in the next ACC bulletin:

April 28th 2018 marked the 3rd annual ACC WI Chessie Fun Day held at the home of John & JoAnn Stancer (WI Regional Director). We couldn’t of asked for a better day. The weather cooperated  with us for the mock hunt test, lure coursing, shed antler demo and practice. New this year we offered CGC, CGCA, CGCU and SPOT testing, we had 35 chessies evaluated by Tom Pawlisch and Polly Dake-Jones. I thank them both for spending the day doing the evaluations. The event is growing each year, we had 82 people attend with 69 chessies. A great time was had by all, there was something for everyone to do. I want to thank everyone for their help in making this day a success!
