Gambler is the life of the party. He is one of the most athletic dogs we’ve had — if we say “Jump”, he says “How High. He is a fun-loving, easy-going dog who makes us laugh every day with his antics around the farm. Gambler is quite a dog. Easily trained, heavy drive, great marking ability and very versatile – this dog hunts, shows, dock dives, lure courses, competes in Rally Obedience and goes each Friday to visit kids with emotional behavioral disorders doing his therapy dog work all with ease!

Gambler competed in AKC performance events. In June 2012, he earned his AKC Junior Hunter Title. In August 2013, he earned his AKC Senior Hunter Title at 27 months of age, in May 2016 he received his AKC Master Hunter Title. Gambler was amateur trained by JoAnn he was handled to Senior Hunter title by JoAnn then John completed his Master Title.

Gambler also competed in UKC performance and UKC conformation events.  He received his UKC Grand Champion title on November 10, 2013. Gambler was the #1 Chesapeake in the 2012 and 2013 Top Ten UKC dog and breed standings, he has been listed in the Top Ten 3 times since 2012. As a result, he was invited to the Top Ten at the UKC Premier. Gambler also earned his UKC Seasoned title at 27 months, he went on to complete his UKC Finished title in June 2016. He has competed in UKC site hound Lure Coursing with 2 passes (just one shy of his LC title).  Gambler earned his UKC Ultimate Air Dog Senior Jumper title at 25 months, with his longest jump being 18.3 ft. Gambler has earned the Total Dog award 8 times. Since retiring from hunt tests Gambler was performing in UKC Rally Obedience, he received his Rally Obedience 1 (RO1) title in May of 2018, his Rally Obedience 2 (RO2) title in May of 2019 and his Rally Obedience 3 (RO3) in June of 2019.

He also has his Canine Good Citizen title, Therapy Dog Inc. & American Temperament Test certificates. October of 2015 Gambler finished the second level of the CGC certificates and received his Community Canine Title (CGCA) and his Canine Good Citizen Urban (CGCU). In January 2018 he received his UKC Socialized Pet Obedience Test (SPOT-ON) title. Just for fun in May 2017 Gambler received his AKC Trick Dog Novice (TKN) and Intermediate (TKI) titles then in May of 2019 he received his Trick Dog Advanced (TKA) title. This dog will do anything I ask him to do when it comes to tricks. Gambler continues to do pet therapy with children where he has now earned his Therapy Dog Advanced title (THDA) for completing over 200 therapy visits.

A couple other AKC Titles that he has earned are his AKC Achiever Dog in March 2018, Rally Novice (RN) in January 2019 and his Farm Dog Certified (FDC) title in July 2019.

Besides training and competing in AKC & UKC performance events Gambler is an avid upland and waterfowl hunter in WI, he has also hunted woodcock, grouse and morning doves. He has traveled to Saskatchewan 8 years hunting snow geese, ducks and cranes. At 9.5 years old he still hunts, he may not be as fast as he was in his younger years but don’t tell him that as he still gets stoked to go out hunting and will go until you tell him it’s enough.

Sand Spring Chesapeakes

Gamblers Tribute 3/10/25

RO3 USJ HRCH U-GRCH Sand Spring Ev’ry Paw’s A Winner MH RN THDA CGCA CGCU  TT TKA FDC SPOT-ON “Gambler” was born on 05/13/11 in a litter of 8 out of HRCH UH Hope Springs Dowry HRC500 MH44 QAA       &         HRCH Sand Spring Norm Of Caroway MH. “Norman” is Sand Spring Chesapeakes foundation stud, we kept a puppy out of this litter in hopes to get a Norman clone. We didn’t get a Norman clone, but we got something better. Gambler was the life of the party. He was one of the most athletic dogs we’ve had – if we say “Jump”, he says “How High”. He was a fun-loving, easy-going dog who made us laugh every day with his antics around the farm. Gambler was quite a dog. Easily trained, heavy drive, great marking ability and very versatile – this dog hunted, showed in conformation, dock dove, lure coursed, competed in Rally Obedience and went  Thursday’s to visit residents at Clearview Health campus along with visiting Randolph Nursing Home, in the past he visited kids with emotional behavioral disorders doing his therapy dog work all with ease, his favorite thing was having the kids dress him up!

Gambler competed in AKC performance events. In June 2012, he earned his AKC Junior Hunter Title. In August 2013, he earned his AKC Senior Hunter Title at 27 months of age, in May 2016 he received his AKC Master Hunter Title. Gambler was amateur trained by JoAnn, he was handled to Senior Hunter title by JoAnn then John completed his Master Title. He was our second dog to receive a Master Hunter title.

Gambler also competed in UKC performance and UKC conformation events. He received his UKC Grand Champion title on November 10, 2013. Gambler was the #1 Chesapeake in 2012 and 2013 Top Ten UKC dog and breed standings, he has been listed in the Top Ten 3 times since 2012. In 2012 and 2013 he was in first place out of 10 places and then in 2017 he was in fourth place. As a result, he was invited to the Top Ten at the UKC Premier. Gambler also earned his UKC Seasoned (HR) title at 27 months, he went on to complete his UKC Finished (HRCH) title in June 2016. While competing in UKC Conformation and Performance events from 2013-2019 Gambler earned 4 Total Dog recognition, showing he was versatile in show and performance.

He also has his Canine Good Citizen title, Therapy Dog Inc. & American Temperament Test certificates. October of 2015 Gambler finished the second level of the CGC certificates and received his Community Canine Title (CGCA) and his Canine Good Citizen Urban (CGCU). Just for fun in May 2017 Gambler received his AKC Trick Dog Novice (TKN) in which he was the first Chesapeake to earn this title, and Intermediate (TKI) titles then in May of 2019 he received his Trick Dog Advanced (TKA) title. In March of 2017 Gambler became a member of the R.E.A.D. program where he would let children read to him. In January 2018 he received his UKC Socialized Pet Obedience Test (SPOT-ON) title. This dog will do anything I ask him to do when it comes to tricks. Gambler continued to do pet therapy with children and nursing homes where he has now earned his Therapy Dog Advanced title (THDA) for completing over 100 therapy visits. He ended his therapy career with 170 visits.

A couple other AKC Titles that he has earned are his Barn Hunt Instinct in April of 2016. We didn’t compete in other Barn Hunt events as he thought the white rat tube was a big white bumper, and we didn’t want any rats harmed so we stuck to other events. AKC Achiever Dog in March 2018, Rally Novice (RN) in January 2019 and his Farm Dog Certified (FDC) title in July 2019.

Besides training and competing in AKC & UKC performance events Gambler was an avid upland and waterfowl hunter in WI, he has also hunted woodcock, grouse and morning doves. He has traveled to Saskatchewan for 8 years hunting snow geese, ducks and cranes. At 13.5 years old he still hunted, he may not have been as fast as he was in his younger years, but we didn’t tell him that as he still got stoked to go out hunting and went until you told him that’s enough.

Gambler leaves a legacy behind as we bred him three times, he has to my knowledge 17 living pups out there. He has offspring with a HRCH – finished, SH- Senior Hunter, JH-Junior Hunter titles and 3 offspring with OFA Excellent hips. We have a part of Gambler at Sand Spring Chesapeakes as we have his grand daughter Cooter who is just over a year old and when old enough and passes all her health clearances, we hope to add her to our breeding program so Gambler can continue to live on.

It was never boring with Gambler around; he was definitely my dog. He needed to be kenneled when I wasn’t around because he always got into something of mine and wrecked it. His followers knew him for taking my purses, emptying them and chewing the straps off, eating the pockets out of my jackets so he could get at my chapstick. Grabbing any food item, he could reach in the pantry or table and eating it. He even got a hold of my friend’s cremains and deposited Susie around the house. There are so many stories of Gambler that will live on in my memories forever. He was one of a kind and he was MY KIND. Thank you, Gambler, for giving me just shy of 14 years of your love and shenanigans. You will be deeply missed, I don’t know what I am going to do with all my time now that I don’t have to keep my eyes on you.  Run free buddy hope there is an endless supply of chapstick where you are. 5/13/11 – 03/10/25.
