Two months ago Glory was in season (in heat), we did not breed her at that time as we are planning on breeding her this winter. Two months after a dog is in season if bred they have puppies, if they are not bred the hormones in their system tell them they are ready to have puppies so they get ready for their arrival just like if they are really pregnant.
Last weekend Glory started making a nest for her “puppies”. This nest she decided to make was under our covered deck next to the foundation of our house. Glory’s mother Nellie started this nest when she was having puppies as well so it had a good start.
Glory has managed to dig the hole deep enough that she can stand in it without you seeing her, now that is pretty darn deep as Glory is over 2 foot tall.
She goes under the deck each time she is outside and works on her nest.
She was finished digging her nest on Sunday afternoon and then Sunday night she went over to the toy box rooted around until she found the right one and out came her “baby”.
Her “baby” is a yellow toy bone. She now thinks that is her “baby” and will carry it around and keep it with her.
The other dogs are mean and since she is carrying it around they think she has something fun so they go up to her and take it away from her and run off. Poor Glory they don’t have any compassion for her and her darn hormones. This hopefully won’t last very long and she will be back to normal.
This weekend the girls decided to cuddle so I had to get a couple of pictures of them as they don’t lay by each other much.
They had a long cuddle session this night. It was nice to see them hang out together. I’m glad momma and Guilty get along as well as they do.
Have a great day!
Luckily the few times I was in heat, I didn’t do much of that pretending to have puppies thing. Mom was happy about that. We will see what Madison does when she has her first heat. It can be funny to watch, but it can also be frustrating as we have seen with friend’s dogs.
that is the sweetest thing ever. Sweet girl xoxo
Awww. Had no idea the hormones instill that nesting behavior when they haven’t been bred. Too funny she chose a yellow bone for her baby.
I feel so sorry for her! That is a huge hole that she has dug for herself. She should know that you have an elaborate welping box for her. She needs a stuffed puppy.
Sweet Glory and her yellow bone “baby.” Hormones can be quite confusing . . . ask anyone with teenagers!
Poor Glory, no one understands her! 🙂 The cuddling photos are so sweet. ♥
