Gambler and Glory were asked to do therapy work again. We took 2015 off and were excited when asked to do therapy work again at the Middle School this time. When I wasn’t doing therapy work I really missed it, I missed the time with my dogs and the kids. I missed not being able to make a difference with my dogs.
Once I got asked to visit again I got on the computer and made up some bookmarks with Gamblers information on them for the kids. I knew I would be taking Gambler first for the visits as he really enjoys it and loves to have the kids dress him up.
The day finally came. Friday mornings are going to be our therapy day. I had to get Gambler ready for his visits.
Gambler put his therapy collar on and he was ready to go. He stepped right back into the roll like a champ. We had to wait in the hall way for a bit while our therapy team leader came to help us and Gambler just stared at all the kids and was so well behaved. The teachers passing through the hall way of course had to stop and say hi. We went to 3 class rooms this day and got to see one of the boys he visited in elementary school before so that was super exciting. Gambler had a new experience with children in wheel chairs and he handled that situation really well. He would go up to the chairs with the girls in them and would sit by them and lick their hands. The teachers helped them pet his fur and he just sat there. I was proud of him and proud that we were back making a difference.
Well done Gambler!
That’s great you found something you enjoy doing. It wouldn’t be our thing at all, but lots of people enjoy doing the therapy work in many different ways.
Loved reading this.
Dogs inherently are so good and gentle.
You guys are doing a good thing.
It means a lot to the kids, as teaching the kids kindness to Gambler starts a good path to be kind to animals always.
that was such a cute idea to make this bookmarks… I wish I could be one of this kids who hug the bestest g-man now…
I wish you had your easy back to hug. Gman sends a big cyber hug to you!!
What a wonderful way to share some puppy love. I know patients are so happy to see Gambler. ♥
Welcome back, G-Man. Being a therapy dog is the best thing ever! My mom loves our book marks-so clever.
Your fellow therapist,
Sam ?
Great job by both of you! I love how you did the bookmarks too – you think of everything!
Sounds like a wonderful day. Good job Gman. I bet the kids loved seeing you.
