Hormones Gone Segregation Gone Somewhat

Guilty went out of heat February 15. She still has girly hormones going on but not like when she first went into heat and when she was in standing heat. You can read about Preacher and her segregation here. During her whole heat cycle she was kept away from Preacher as we found out Preacher had issues with her in heat and would start fights with her or more like would attack her. To help calm Preacher down I put a Adaptil collar on her and plugged in a room diffuser. You can read about Adaptil in this blog post by clicking here. I put away all the bones and the treat puzzles. Once Guilty was finished with her heat cycle I started letting her and Preacher be together for short supervised visits. In the beginning Preacher would give her the stink eye and we were on top of getting Preacher to focus on something else. Guilty learned to stay clear of Preacher and would avoid her when she got a bad vibe from her.

Pick up your feet loose your seat to Guilty.

A week and a half later the girls can be in the house together and hang out without any issues. I even caught Preacher going up to Guilty and gave her a kiss. Preacher wants to play with Guilty but we stop it before anything gets going. I just don’t want to take a chance that excitement will trigger something in Preacher. We have been training a small amount so getting both girls some much needed exercise as well. Preacher still sleeps in her crate at night as I’m not brave enough to let her have free run while we are sleeping and I can’t keep a eye on her.

John get’s his seat back.

So I’m hoping it was all a hormonal surge that pushed Preacher over the edge but we still can’t let our guard down as when we do that will surly be when the cobra strikes. We are adjusting to our new normal and so far so good.

A overdue thank you and shout out to PetNitro who put Sand Spring Chesapeakes blog in their Top Dog Bloggers To Follow in 2017 list. We are among 50 other great bloggers to be recognized and we are so proud to be in our first list! As you can see I proudly displayed their badge on the right in my sidebar. Congrats to all that made the list!

Have a great weekend all!

I’m glad things have settled down for you a bit! I know how it goes when your dogs can’t be loose together. When I adopted Rye, it was a full month and a half of always having barriers between the dogs before Barley accepted Rye and thought she might be fun to play with. Then it was another several weeks before I let them be loose together for longer periods of time. Now they can finally be loose together almost all the time (except when I’m not home when nobody’s loose anyway), but there are still times when Rye annoys Barley and we have to take some time outs. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that things just keep improving for you!
