Dove hunting opened in WI on September 1, yesterday was Guilty’s first time out hunting for doves. John as taken her to sit in our pasture to shoot pigeons but never got any so this is really her first hunting experience. John didn’t have a stake out for her so he was trusting her to be steady. John is a good shot so she was able to retrieve 12 doves. She would sit by John’s side but when the gun went off she was off and running. She marked the short ones that fell near her but the long ones she would stop short of the retrieve and then John would go out and help her out until she found the bird. She had nice retrieves and would hold the bird and deliver to hand. She did great for her first time and being only 7 months old!
Gambler and I didn’t fair to well out hunting. I only got 5 doves for him to retrieve. Gambler doesn’t mind as it’s all about time spent together out in the field. There are many more days ahead of dove hunting.

Bravo Guilty!!! You are a champ! 5 doves are great too… I throw the coal on the grill, so it is hot enough till you are there :o)
Way to go, Guilty! Such a good girl. No doubt she’ll just get better and better with more hunts under her belt…er fur. 😉
Pretty amazing for a puppy!
It sounds like Guilty had a great first experience! Sorry you and Gambler didn’t do better, but glad you enjoyed the time out there anyway.
My mother in law used to cook dove breasts. So good!
