Since we have over a foot of snow their isn’t much hunt test training going on these days. The young dogs are crazy with energy. To ride them of some of their energy I was throwing tennis balls for them to go retrieve and bring back to me in hopes to wear them out. Since the snow is so deep the ball would get buried in the snow and the dogs would have a hard time finding the ball. They would mark the fall, run over to the fall and then sniff around and stick their head in the snow looking for the ball. They would come up empty handed so I would go over there, kick the snow around find grass under all the snow but no ball. We have loss many balls because of this. I went to the store the other day and say a soft football and thought to my self this would be a better alternative to the tennis balls. It was bigger so they would find it better, right? I was so happy with my purchase and couldn’t wait to get home to try it out.

I unwrapped the footballs and put on the table, Gambler and Glory both knew they must of been for them and jumped up on the table to get them. They were so excited when I picked up the balls and went outside to play. John threw the football and I took pictures. They were just crazy with excitement.

Even know this was “fun” time we still tried to do some obedience so everything we taught them so far didn’t vanish. We had Gambler sit and watch the football be thrown, mark the fall then retrieve it.

The fun part for them was throwing the ball over the snow bank and having them launch over the snow bank to get the ball.

After Gambler had his fun it was Glory’s time to come out and have some fun too. Here is a picture of Glory waiting for her turn.

All in all I think this was a great purchase and the dogs most definitively thought it was a great purchase. More fun to come!
