North American Diving Dogs ~Slammer Competes

Slammer

This past weekend Slammer competed in his first dog event for this year. In March of 2020 he was signed up for the North American Diving Dogs event being held at Three Hounds Training Ground in Plymouth, WI. Due to COVID-19 all events were cancelled including this one so when we found out the event was rescheduled to June 5-7th we couldn’t of been happier. Finally a dog event that we could go to.

Slammer with Tom.

My partner in crime Tom went with me to the event on Friday June 5th, he to hasn’t been to any dog events and had his girl Josey signed up for the jumps along with Slammer but he ended up breeding her two weeks ago so she couldn’t come with to jump.

Walking the dog.

Tom was such a great help, from picking up Slammers poop to walking him to making sure we made it to our jumps on time. He even held Slammer on the dock while I went to the end and tossed the bumper into the pool.

Slammer was signed up for two splashes on Friday. During each splash you can have a practice jump which we took since Slammer hasn’t jumped since February. After the practice jump you are allowed two jumps, the longest jump will be the one recorded as the jump for the splash. The first splash Slammer jumped 20’3 ft. This was his first leg in the masters division.

The second splash Slammer jumped 20’9 ft. This was his second leg in the masters division.

We had a great afternoon. I couldn’t believe how well Slammer jumped and how consistent he was. We will be back on Saturday for 4 more splashes.

Saturday’s set up.

Splash 3 Slammer jumped 22 ft, this was the longest jump so far for Slammer. This would be his 3rd leg in the master division.

Splash 4 Slammer jumped 21 ft. This was his 4th leg in the master division.

Splash 5 Slammer jumped 20’6 ft. This was the 5th leg in the masters division which also means it would be his title jump. Slammer was so happy to carry his bumper back to the car. We did it. He continued being consistent and jumped at least one of the two jumps in the 20 ft range to stay in the master division which is jumping 20-23 ft. We had one more splash to go that we signed up for on Saturday so we hung around to jump even know he already met the needs for a title.

Splash 6 Slammer jumped 20’3 ft. What a great end to the day!

I never thought we would be ending the weekend with a Dock Master title, I thought maybe Slammer would jump in the senior division so when he started jumping in the masters division I was super excited. When I did dock diving with Gambler (Slammers Brother) many years ago Gambler jumped in the senior division to get his senior title and his personal best was 18.9 ft. Slammer out did the Gman with a master title and a personal best of 22 ft.

Thanks to Three Hounds Training Ground and NADD for a great event!
