Happy Saturday Everyone!
12/15/00 we went to Lake Forrest Illinois to pick up baby Norman. Being that I can’t remember anything I thought we picked up Norman the week of Christmas as then he would of been 7-8 weeks old the normal time to take your puppy home but I was sadly mistaken when I went though some puppy pictures of Norman the other day and the date on one of the photos was 12/15/00 so that meant Norman was only 6 weeks old. He was just a wee little guy then but he was all ours and would share the rest of his life with us.
John is a trapper so Norman got to go on his first trapping outing when he came to his new home. More trapping adventures to come.
A Dog’s Plea
Treat me kindly, my beloved friend, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me. Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me learn. Speak to me often, for your voice is the world’s sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear. Please take me inside when it is cold and wet, for I am a domesticated animal, no longer accustomed to bitter elements. I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger. And, my friend, when I am very old, and I no longer enjoy good health, hearing and sight, do not make heroic efforts to keep me going. I am not having any fun. Please see that my trusting life is taken gently. I shall leave this earth knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was always safest in you hands.

Brooke was beautiful and of course Norman was precious! Is that a cat he is humping? LOL!
Yup that was bubba the cat…..lol
Sometimes I wish I could stop the march of time. Thanks for such a wonderful post. btw: Easy did the same like Norman in the last picture. His object of desire was (and is) his dad’s pillow :o)
lol easy you silly boy, you go to town on dad’s pillow. lol
Very bittersweet. I have not been able to write anything since Scout’s death.. I love reading about your Norman. doG Bless
Paulette, I think you should right about Scout, it has made me feel so much better. Especially reliving his early years, it forces me to look at pictures I haven’t looked at in a very long time and brings a smile to my face.
Puppies are so very precious. Bailie has only been here three months and is only six months old but is already so “dog” looking! That is so neat that you have raccoons! Mom thinks they are so fun even though they get into lots of trouble. Mom still talks about her Trine ten years after she left and she can’t imagine what she will do when something happens to Katie, Bailie or me but it is life and we try to focus on the present and the good memories.
I did have raccoons. They got into lots of trouble. Sounds like another blog post in order.
Sweet post. What a cutie – and a little rascal!
Thank you, he was a little rascal.
Oh my. Look at puppy Norman. Such a sweetie — it’s no wonder you were smitten from Day 1!
Right, he was a little ham bone.
He sure was adorable and big for 6 weeks. Maybe the date on the picture was off?
This photo was one I had developed from a 35mm camera and the date was stamped on the back. He was a big puppy.
Oh sweet Norman, what a beautiful puppy!!
Thank you
