Nothing But Norman #61

Happy Saturday All!

Project16 - Copy - Copy - Copy

I’ve shown these pictures before as they are my favorite ones of Norman hunting in Saskatchewan back in 2009. I turned them in to sepia for today’s post and think they are just as lovely. We will be going to Saskatchewan in a few weeks so thought I would get in the groove.

Last Sunday I reloaded Norman’s ashes into the shot gun hulls that we used on our last hunt together in Saskatchewan. After we shot our geese John and I picked up the empty shells we used while hunting with Norman and I saved them knowing one day I will be putting Norman back into those shells and bringing him back up to the fields we hunted in the past and would lay Norman to rest on his final flight in Saskatchewan. Norman and Nellie were part of the reason we started going to Saskatchewan snow goose hunting. A puppy buyer bought a puppy out of Nellie, we became friends and he invited us along on a hunt and have been hunting there each year ever since. We used to go elk hunting but that meant the dogs had to stay at home. Our dogs are our life so why not start doing something with them so snow goose hunt it was. I wanted to see if the shells would go off and how it would turn out so we took Nellie and Glory down to the pond to give their fair well to Norman on our pond.

Nellie on left, Glory on right.

Whatcha doing mom? Nellie asks.

We’re going to say goodbye to your dad Nellie.

Be free Norman.

Till we meet again my friend.

Geez, Mom’s eyes are leaking on the keyboard! What a great way to honor Norman! Mom says Saskatchewan is a lovely place, I’ve never been. There is a good chance we will be going to Canada in the future for Bailie and her tracking. I guess tests are hard to get into here, and easier to get into in Canada plus she can get international titles that way. We will see.

That is just so awesome, what a perfect way to give Norman a special send off. It is obvious in the photos how much he loved hunting.

Tears, such a beautiful way to set Norman free, to the places he loved and you were together. Setting our heart dogs free is so hard to do. It took me over 10 years with my Ashley.
