This past weekend Gambler’s daughter Red along with owner Rick came down from Michigan to hang out with us and run the Horicon Marsh HRC hunt test. She was running the finished test, she only needed one more pass for her Hunting Retriever Champion title.
Rick and Red were entered in both hunt tests which were on Saturday and Sunday.
In a finished test you must retrieve 3 birds on land and three birds on water, you also need to do a blind retrieve on land and water as well as one honor. The land and water is broken into two series. One is run in the am and the other one is run in the afternoon as soon as the first series is done.
In the Hunting Retrieving Club hunt tests to earn a Hunting Retriever Champion title you must receive 100 points from running tests. There are three levels of hunt tests starting out with Started tests then Seasoned tests finally Finished tests. Each pass gives you a certain amount of points that add up to 100. In Red’s case she received 2 started passes which gave her 10 points, then she received 3 seasoned passes which gave her 30 points along with her 10 points which then gave her a Seasoned Title for reaching 40 points. She would then run 4 finished tests to earn 60 points totaling now 100 points for her Hunting Retriever Champion title.
Rick and Red passed their finished test on Saturday. Red is 3 years and 2 months old. What a great accomplishment for a young gal. They worked hard at training so this title was very well deserved.
What was really cool about this weekend is that Gambler and Red got to run a hunt test together. Gambler was test dog for the water series on Sunday morning, right after Gambler ran it was Red’s turn to run so Gambler got to honor Red.
To honor means after your dog runs the test then it has to sit and honor the working dog. It sits and watches all the birds go down once the working dog is released to go pick up it’s marks the honor dog is excused and walks off the line.
Gambler has his HRCH title so it’s really cool that now his daughter Red has her HRCH title and we were there to watch it happen. What a great weekend it was.
Hugh congrats go out to Rick and Red for a job well done! Red is now working on her AKC Senior Hunter Title.
Red’s new registered name is: HRCH Krauts Sudden Impact JH
She was bred by Rick at Sauerkraut Chesapeakes her mom is Choptank and dad is Gambler.
It’s wonderful that so many of your puppies are heavily involved in hunting!
Great job, Red! How fun that you, John, and Gambler got to spend that time with his offspring!
