Day 4 was Wednesday September 28, 2016. This was another great day out in the field, the birds were plentiful again. It started out with John shooting 2 cranes out of the flock of cranes that came by, Glory retrieved one and Gambler stole one because I thought I shot it so I let Gambler go and retrieve it. John later told me I didn’t shoot it. How does he know that for a fact? We both shot at the group of cranes and I believe I shot one! The sunrise this morning was beautiful! Glory got to do some blind retrieves with John so she kept up on that. When we got back to the farm house Preacher and Guilty had some practice picking up and carrying around the cranes since they have never seen any before. It took some sweet talking at first to get Preacher to pick it up and once she figured it out she was good to go. Guilty was a little go getter and picked it up right away and carried it back to John. The girls done good! The dogs sure were tired after this hunt. They all snuggled in my bed for a nice afternoon nap.
Today’s totals: 74 snows, 2 cranes total: 76
Goodness! That is an excellent day of hunting.
Heavens
Heavens! What in the world does one do with all those birds? Food bank or shelters?
The food bank in our freezer. We take them to a butcher and have them ground into a summer sausage like item and we give a lot away to our friends and eat a lot while at hunt tests during the summer.
Great photos, beautiful sunrises and pawsome retrieves! Well done. 🙂
Those are some big birds, and a lot of them – no wonder everyone is so pooped out in that last photo!
Nice pictures. Our dogs have not had cranes or really geese for that matter.
