Day 6 was Friday September 30, 2016. This morning it was raining and when it rains I say in bed. Glory and John went out hunting and they had a different kind of day. They ended up with 1 crane and 2 sharp tail grouse. Glory had fun and for that fact John had fun to because it isn’t very often you get to come across some sharp tails.
Today’s totals: 1 crane, 2 sharptails. Total:3
Grand total for the week was 179 birds.
congrats glory… you are a fab hunter…. seems a remake of alfred hitchcocks berd movie could be difficult now :o)
OMD! A crane?!? That is a BIG haul.
Whoa…didn’t know cranes could be hunted-thought they were protected. They roost here during the migratory season. Some of them are 6 ft. tall! Pretty striking birds.
They are protected in some states. You can hunt them in Canada so we do when they come through. They are huge and you want to make sure they aren’t wounded and send your dog on them, their big beak can do some damage.
I guess variety is good.
I’m surprised to see green grass! I would have thought it would be all snowy there this time of year!
hehe this was back in Sept and I’m glad there was no snow, I would of froze more than I already did.
It looks like they had fun. Two completely different birds a huge crane and sharp tail grouse. I have never heard of sharp tail grouse.
sharp tail grouse is in the grouse family like the rough grouse which we have here in WI.
I’m also afraid I might melt, so stay inside when it’s raining. The dogs don’t understand that, though I’ve heard there are dogs that don’t like rain either! LOL
Very nice and good eating!
