How did we come to naming this precious little girl Preacher? It was all John’s doing, see I named the last 3 puppies so he wanted to name this puppy. John also wanted to keep a male puppy this time but I told him no we were keeping a girl puppy so in a few years we would have another girl to breed when Glory’s breeding career was going to end. Have to keep the Sand Spring breeding line going right? So since John didn’t get to get his male this time I let him name this girl. John is a big Clint Eastwood western movie nut. He knows all the movies by heart, can recite lines from all the movies ect. So of course he would want to pick a Clint Eastwood name for his puppy. He has wanted Josey after The Outlaw Josey Wales for the longest time but as great minds think alike one of the puppy buyers who was getting a girl was naming their girl Josey so John came up with another name. His next favorite movie was Pale Rider, Clint Eastwood was the “Preacher” in that movie so Preacher was born. As I see it with Gambler in the house we need a Preacher don’t ya think?
From Wikipedia:
The movie’s title is taken from The Book of Revelation, chapter 6, verse 8: “And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him.” The reading of the biblical passage describing this character is neatly choreographed to correspond with the sudden appearance of the Preacher, who arrived as a result of a prayer from Megan, in which she quoted Psalm 23. Preacher’s comment after beating one of the villains is, “Well, the Lord certainly does work in mysterious ways.” After the temptation to shift his ministry to the town, Preacher says, “You can’t serve God and Mammon, Mammon being money.”[6] According to Robert Jewett the film’s dialogue parallels Paul’s teaching on divine retribution (Romans 12:19-21).[6]
It was interesting to read about the meaning of Pale Rider on Wikipedia, I sure hope Death doesn’t follow anytime soon!
