A little of this and a little of that and everything in between…
For a nine year old girl Nellie’s teeth are doing very well. She had a dental cleaning 2 years ago when she was spayed.
The lymph nodes are palpated to make sure they are of normal size. If lymph nodes are reacting to an infection or if lymphoma in them they will be enlarged. You want to catch lymphoma early.
The heart is asculted to make sure no heart murmurs are heard or if there was a previous heart murmur it hasn’t gotten worse which may mean early heart problems. Nellie’s heart sounded fine.
The abdomen is palpated to make sure no tumors are felt. The spleen and intestinal tract are known for getting benine and malganent tumors. Her abdomen was normal.
Nellie weighed in at 74#. She is ~10# over weight. We are working on taking that weight off with diet food and exercise.
Nellie was vaccinated for Bordetella, Lepto and Lymes. Her heartworm test was negative. She is good to go for another 6 months when she will have another examination done.
A very special thank you goes out to Lydia, Rosalyn and Sugar from See Beautiful for the special gift I got in the mail last week. I didn’t get the package until after my See Beautiful blog post was posted so I am taking time now to say thank you for such a wonderful See Beautiful package which included a beautiful hand written note, some forget me not seeds, a bumper sticker and my favorite mimosa hand soap that smells out of this world. Thank you for seeing the beauty in me and sharing your beauty with me.
A little of That:
MK has taken to helping herself to the dogs food while they are eating. Glory shares, Gambler growls.

I’m glad Nellie is fine and I’m sure with long walks the weight problem is fixed soon. I’m not a good food-sharer too , my bowl is my castle :o)
So glad Nellie is doing so well and you did a wonderful job reviewing what a good vet check should be.
Thanks so much for joining TNT! Nellie looked absolutely thrilled with her check-up…lol. I am so happy to hear that she is healthy. That MK is quite a character. That kibble is large for a little kitty to crunch up. Bet she really has to work on it….lol.
So glad Nellie had a good check up. I’m also a big fan of regular check ups. Because Honey is only 4, we only go once a year. But it helps the vet stay familiar with her. If something did go wrong, I don’t want her to be a stranger to the vet.
Good luck with the weight loss project. I’m sure the folks at SlimDoggy.com have some good ideas for you.
Happy to see that Nellie’s vet visit went well, and I think she’s pretty happy that it’s over. 😉
Hi Y’all!
That’s nice, Glory shares!
Nellie, my heart goes out to you! This diet and exercise thing is tough…not the exercise, but the diet thingy!
Y’all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
Nellie’s expression is very similar to mine when the doctor is examining me! LOL! I love your dogs but Marsh Kitty has certainly pawed her way into my heart!
Oooo Nellie did so well. So patient! Quick question, what’s the best way to clean off plaque aside from daily brushing and routine dental visits? Is there a way to self-clean at home? Any special tools to use? Thanks for linking up to the last TNT hop! See you next week on Thoughtless Thursday 🙂
Hooray for good health!
I’m not sure any of our dogs would put up with the cats eating their food! Conrad has tried it….no go. So isn’t Glory sweet to share! I’m so glad Nellie’s check up went well!
I’m telling you, that MK is after my heart…
Cooper won’t growl if JackCat checks out his food dish while he’s eating, but if Cooper has a bone it’s a whole other story!
