December 16-17, 2017 Gambler, Guilty and Josey attended the Dodge County Canine Club UKC dog show in Ixonia, WI. Gambler and Josey competed in Rally O which was held on the Friday before the show, if you missed that post you can view it here.
Gambler and Josey were entered into the grand champion class as they both have their UKC Grand Champion titles, Guilty was entered into the champion class as she only has one leg out of five towards her grand champion title. The class dog goes into the ring first. Guilty was the only class dog so in all four shows she won the champion class. Next into the ring was the grand champions Gambler and Josey, Gambler was first in the class as males go first. I was nervous doing anything with Gambler as we have been training for Rally O and he has a tendency to jump, bite and try to hump me while running the course. He did an excellent job Friday night at Rally O with no shenanigans. Gambler hasn’t been in the show ring since 2014, I was handling Gambler when all the shenanigans started. When we were asked to go around the ring to show his movement he started jumping, biting and yes humping me. I was pushing him off me, telling him leave it and continuing on around the ring. He really was putting on a good show, I could hear the crowd stop what they were doing and watch us. In the end Gambler took Best Of Breed over Josey. The judge said “boy was he frisky, the movement I did see out of him was really nice so I picked him”. The second show went better as no shenanigans, again the judge picked Gambler for the Best Of Breed. Because he won BOB and qualified in Rally O the night before he received Total Dog status for the dog show and got a nice big red and black ribbon.
Since I had entered both Gambler and Guilty I needed help showing one. Sophia handled Guilty, it’s a good thing I had her handing Guilty as she didn’t need to deal with Gamblers shenanigans. She did an excellent job showing her.
On Sunday I only entered Gambler in the second show. The first show it was again Guilty in the champion class and Josey in the grand champion class. This time around the judge chose Josey for Best Of Breed. Since she got BOB at the show and qualified in Rally O the night before she too received her Total Dog.
For the fourth show it was the same line up and the judge picked Guilty for the Best Of Breed. I asked her why she picked Guilty over Gambler and she said she liked them both but she liked Guilty’s broad head better than Gamblers. Since Guilty went BOB she picked up her second leg out of five for her grand champion title.
Everyone came away winners this weekend. It was a fun weekend with the dogs and friends. Thanks to Sophia for help showing Guilty. It’s nice to have someone able to help me out since I have multiple dogs I want to show. Thanks to Dodge County Canine Club for hosting the show and thanks to the four judges that judged us in the show ring.
I helped steward the rings this weekend, I learned a lot about the different dogs and why the judges picked who they picked. The judges were very nice at explaining things. I have now joined the Dodge County Canine Club so I will be able to help out more at future events. I figure I’m there anyways might as well pass the time doing something.
Nice job despite the nonsense going on in the ring. That gives my mom hope since we tend to do stuff like that at inopportune times!
Wow. What a pawsome haul of ribbons. Congrats!
I am so proud of y’all! I loved showing my German Shepherd back in the day. Dog shows are a lot of fun. Congratulations!
Wow, what a successful weekend! Congratulations on all those ribbons!
