Blind Retrieves In Snow~FitDog Friday

Last weekend the temperature warmed up to the mid 30’s, finally warm enough to do some training. We decided to run 3 blind’s with the dogs. Blind’s are retrieves done without the dog knowing where the bumpers are and have to be guided with a whistle and hand signals, unless the dog “lines the blind” then it doesn’t need any help at all. We like them to need help as it is good training for a hunt test.

Glory was up first.

Sitting getting ready for her release command.

And she’s off.

John gave her a left hand back.

She went a little to far to the left. Need to do a right hand over now.

Right hand over.

Got it!

The return.

Gambler’s time.

Gambler lining up.

And he’s off.

The return.

Glory needing a break in the snow.

Gambler doesn’t seem to tire but Glory on the other hand need a little more exercising to get in shape. She came back from her last blind and had to lay down and take a moment in the snow. Mind you the closest blind was 150 yards out and then the other two were over 200 yards.

National Pet Dental Health Month

Pet Need Dental Care, Too

I’m a little behind the eight ball on this post as it should of really been done the first of the month so you all knew that February was National Pet Dental Health Month, but from all the blog posts going around I think you all know it by now. The other bloggers have been doing a excellent job getting the word out on how important taking care of your pet’s teeth is. You should do it all year long to keep your pets teeth healthy.

I really should do more when it comes to my pet’s teeth (especially Gambler, when he was young I spent $1000.00 correcting his teeth after Norman bit him. More on that later) . I brush them on occasion, use a product from the vet called Oravet on occasion and give them lots of bones to chew on. My gang must be blessed with good teeth genetics. Noman had a very light cleaning when I neutered him at 10 years old. Nellie had a very light cleaning at 7 years when I spayed her, Gambler and Glory haven’t needed a dental yet at 4 & 3 years.

In our examination rooms at work we have this poster hanging on the door.

We also have a handout that we can check mark the appropriate box that describes the clients pet’s teeth and give to them to take home.

We have several products that we sell at the clinic to keep the pets teeth healthy.

Hill’s t/d dog and cat food.

Bigger impregnated food to make the dog or cat chew the food so the scrubbing action takes off the plaque.

C.E.T chewies.

Chewies are impregnated with Chlorahexidine to help kill the bacteria in the mouth while they are chewing on the chew.

C.E.T VeggieDent chews.

VeggieDent treats are a non rawhide treat made of veggies.

OraVet once a week treatment and daily tooth brushing and paste.

It’s always best to brush your pet’s teeth daily. If can’t brush daily then you should use OraVet once a week. OraVet is a gel that you rub near the gumline and it covers the tooth and gets under the gum to kill bacteria that is on the teeth which causes the plaque which turns into tartar if not taken care of.

Here is a video of Gman getting his teeth brushed with a electric toothbrush.

Gman loves to get his teeth brushed.

So what are you waiting for, pick up that brush and get started on keeping those teeth healthy.

Coveralls Bite The Dust~Monday Mischief

You all should know by now I hate the cold so when I go outside during the winter months in WI I wear my most favorite coveralls that I have had for over 15 years. I love them because they are just the right thickness to keep me warm and I’m able to move around without all the bulk. One day I stuffed my pocket full of treats and I was off to do a winter photo shoot with the gang. I thought it would go better if I had treats to entice them instead of just taking random photos. Needless to say I didn’t use all the treats, put the coveralls back into the closet and Gambler karate kicked the door open and grabbed my coveralls.

Where are the treats? I smell them!

The treats were yummy!

The culprit.

The pocket no more.

Several times a day Gambler will bring me my boots, jacket and coveralls as he is board and wants to go outside and thinks if he brings this stuff to me I will get up and take him outside.

Mom I brought you your coveralls, lets go outside.

I’m waiting mom.

I got your boot mom!

If you don’t hurry up I will chew a hole in your boot!

Maybe if I haul in the rug and Nellie’s bed you will finally get up and do something with me?

I always know the sound of Gamblers feet prancing across the floor into the living room to bring me something. He thinks he is being such a good boy. It’s about time the coveralls bite the dust as he also ripped off the straps pulling them out of the closet. It’s hard for me to let them go quite yet, maybe after a couple more holes.

Snow And Bumpers = Fun~FitDog Friday

Snow And Bumpers = Fun

If you don’t believe that statement then take a look at these photos of the gang out getting a little exercise in the bitter cold WI weather.

Gambler made sure he came back flying over the snow bank. It’s not as much fun running around the snow bank as it is to fly over it.

Glory of course doesn’t need no stinkin bumpers to carry around, she wants her logs. She was jumping over the snow banks like nobody’s business. She then grabbed the bumper so she could have some bumper photos also.

Nellie even got out to have a little bumper fun in the snow. She may be older but she isn’t much slower.

We didn’t stay outside very long since the high was 5 degrees but we got out for short periods of time to get a little exercise in.

The Skinny On Me~Thursday Barks And Bytes

liebster-award A couple weeks ago I told you we were nominated for the Liebster Award. It’s time for the formal thank you and to follow all most of the rules. First off I would like to send out another thank you to Gilligan and his human from Wags Ahoy for this wonderful dearest award. If you don’t know who Gilligan Ahoy is please stop on over and say hi to this darling little wiener dog with big adventures.

When I googled Liebster award this webpage/blog from Wording Well came up and it actually was cool to read. It’s basically everything you wanted to know about the Liebster award.

What to Do If Nominated:

Should you accept this award, you’ll need to know the rules, which are:

  1. Acknowledge and accept the Liebster Award by leaving a comment on the blog where you were nominated. Done
  2. Copy and paste the Liebster logo onto your own blog. Done
  3. Link back to the blogger who awarded you. Done
  4. Answer the 11 questions put to you by the person who nominated you. Done read below
  5. List 11 random facts about yourself. Done read below
  6. Nominate and link to 3—11 other blogs you enjoy that have less than 3000 followers. Copping out, I’m a rebel and rule breaker

  8. Inform your nominees by leaving a comment on their blog. Anyone who hasn’t gotten this award please help yourself to it, you deserve it!
Questions for Nominees from Gilligan
  1. What is the most interesting location you have traveled to, and what made it so special? West Sussex, UK my first ever over the pond trip to meet a dear facebook friend for the first time. She is a Chesapeake lover just like me who is into hunting and trialing her dogs so she took me on a hunt and to a trial to see how things were done over the pond. A trip of a lifetime that I will never forget.
  2. What method have you found works best for reaching more blog followers and engaging your audience? Visiting other bloggers pages weather it is their blog or other social media commenting, liking, tweeting and sharing their stuff.
  3. How much time per week do you dedicate to your blog? I swear it is 24/7. On my day’s off it is all day long.
  4. What is your strategy for engaging brands, and how many brands do you regularly work with? I don’t engage brands as I have the free WP account and you aren’t suppose to do that stuff on it. Hopefully one day I will venture out to selfhosted.
  5. Would you ever consider adding a new dachshund puppy to your family (regardless of your current family makeup)? I would, I do like them a lot, they have such personalities. I just love the ones that come into our clinic.
  6. What is your number one talent that sets you apart from the rest of the “pack?” My goofy “pack”.
  7. Would you ever consider appearing in a music video? If so, what genre would it be? Nope, this white girl can’t dance.
  8. Are you planning to attend the BlogPaws 2015 Conference? Optional follow-up: If so, does the revenue generated from your blog site cover the costs of your attendance? I am not but hope to one day.
  9. What is the next major goal or new milestone you hope to accomplish with your blog? Go selfhosted.
  10. What is your ultimate “dream come true?” winning the lottery and sharing my millions with my friends.
  11. What aspects constitute the “perfect walk” (in terms of location, length of time, activities, etc.)? Hunting with my Chessies.

11 random facts about me:

1. I tear up at so many different things.

2. I live in my yoga pants when not at work and now they want to try and ban them….urgh….hope not!

3. I’ve been logging into my fitness pal for just over 2 years.

4. I don’t have to wash my face in the morning because Gambler licks it all night long.

5. I have to fall asleep with the TV on and would leave it on all night if it didn’t piss the husband off.

6. My most favorite food is seafood.

7. I could eat at Mc Donalds each day and not get sick of it (sometimes I eat there three times a day).

8. I love to wear my Harley Davison clothes and I don’t even have a bike nor does my husband. I just make people think I am cool!

9. I would like to get another cat.

10. I can’t stand my normal hair color of brown and would like to go back to being a blond but don’t want to pay for it.

11. I won’t drink cold drinks outside if it is cold out. I hate being cold!

There you have it the skinny on me!

I have to tell you bloggers are the best friends. A while back I won a doggie cookbook from Oz The Terrier, I had recently won another giveaway (lucky me) which was Winter Warmers which is made by #honestkitchen. I told Oz I never received my cookbook. On Valentines day the gang got a great Valentines gift. They got their Beef And Bone Broth by The Honest Kitchen and then Oz gave me his own copy of the Canine Cookbook. He didn’t have to do that and that meant a lot to me, what a kind sole. Thank you Oz for all the goodies you are the best!

The loot!

MK wants me to get cooking.

I leave you with my Mardi Gras bloopers. I had fun doing the Mardi Gras photo shoots.
