Nothing But Norman #135

Happy Saturday All!

Nothing But Norman

Today’s post is a awareness post about rectal cancer. A few weeks ago my online pal Flea shared with us that she was diagnosed with rectal cancer. Flea whom the blogging world knows and the general public knows from my many posts about Jones Natural Chews is a person behind the blog for Jones. My gang LOVES Jones Natural Chews and Flea has taken good care of us with her goodies she sends us from time to time.

To keep Flea’s mind off what she is going through and to raise awareness and a little money for her medical expenses she is hand making and selling adjustable leather bracelets. She has a whole array of different ones she has made already and she can custom make one for you. She custom made mine as I saw she had one that had “Star” on it and I asked if she could add “Norman’s” to it so she did. I was happy to pay the $25.00 plus $2.00 s/h to support Flea and her fight with cancer and to have something to look at that warms my heart that Norman is still with me.

Thank you Flea for this beautiful bracelet. I love it and I love the adjustable strap and that you did a paracord knot on the strap.

You can pop on over to Esty’s site and check out the bracelets if you would like to support Flea. You can do so my clicking HERE.

Flea has been very open with her diagnoses and with her treatment and how she is doing. You can follow along with her journey by following the Jones Natural Chews blog. The one thing that Flea has been stressing to us is that if you wipe your bum and you have any bleeding at all to get to the doctor and find out what is going on. She was bleeding last October and poo poo’ed it because really who wants to go in and have their bum looked at, she finally went in last month and got the horrible news that it was indeed cancer. Flea is a fighter and a strong person I know she will kick this cancers ass to the curb. Don’t be a Flea and get your bum to the doctor if you have any worries at all!

DSC04238I leave you today with a pink bumper photo as we have hopes to get out and do some training this weekend and get these dogs back into the routine of hunt test training. May is going to come to soon when hunt test season starts.

Have a great weekend.

This is another picture that popped up on FB this week. It was 4 years ago I posted up this photo of Norman. See when Gambler was 8 weeks old Norman bite him pretty good in the head. Come to find out 9 months later when Gambler got his permanent teeth in that the trauma to the head while the adult teeth were developing caused them to not have the proper enamel on them. This would leave them open to abscesses. To correct this problem I had to have Gamblers teeth sealed at the UW Vet School in Madison, WI to the tune of $1000.00. So Norman was campaigning to raise some money since it was his fault.

Earlier this week this photo popped up on my facebook wall as a memory from 7 years ago. This was the dock dog trainer holding on to Norman while I was at the end of the pier throwing the bumper out into the lake. This was at Dog Camp that Norman and I attended. I was a counselor for the weekend event. We had a great time.

Norman’s light was lit yesterday morning as  friends of ours laid their chessie to rest. My deepest sympathy goes out to them in their loss. Run free Ardi, Norman will show you the ropes and you will chase endless snow geese. I leave you with the poem they posted up with the sad news:

<

p style=”text-align: center;”>“We who choose to surround ourselves
with lives even more temporary than our
own, live within a fragile circle;
easily and often breached.
Unable to accept its awful gaps,
we would still live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only
certain immortality, never fully
understanding the necessary plan.”

When the winter cold blues have you down look back on the fun Norman had during the warm summer months. Why make two trips when you can bring back two bumpers at once and save a trip.

Duck hunting has been over for a month now, looking back on old photo’s of Norman and I came across this photo of my friend Lynne, Norman and I. Lynne and I used to take Norman and her chocolate Katie out hunting all the time. We had a ton of fun.

1307Hunting pals don’t care what you look like, in our neoprene and muck Norman thought we were beauty’s because the one who takes a dog hunting is forever looked upon by them as someone special.

Today I am sharing some pheasant hunting photos of Norman and his daughter Nellie. Norman was a great pheasant hunting dog, I so enjoyed always hunting with him. Nellie learned from the best and was a great hunter too!

When going through my photos of Norman to see what he was doing at this time a few years ago I came across my bear hunting photos. WI bear hunting is September-October. I have a friend that has some really great bear dogs (coonhounds) so I went up by him hunting. I was going up during the week while John stayed home to work. Since I was traveling alone I took Norman with me to keep me company and so no one bothered me if I needed to make a stop and rest somewhere’s. He was such a great travel partner, I miss that feeling that no one could hurt me if Norman was near. The hunt was a success and I have the memories of Norman to go along with the bear that is now in my living room.

It was amazing to watch these dogs work. Anytime you can watch a dog do what it was bred for is such a joy.
