Chef Gambler’s King Cake~Tasty Tuesday

Happy Fat Tuesday! Today Chef Gambler will be making King Cake. He would like to thank his buddy Miss Harper Lee for making this yummy cake in January and was happy she shared her recipe with us all. You can view Miss Lee’s fun post and recipe here.

Check it out it’s Miss Lee.

The ingredients.

Ingredients: (I modified Miss Lee’s a little bit)

2/3 cup bananas, mashed

1/2 butter, softened

3/4 cup water

3 large eggs

2 cups whole wheat flour (I used regular flour)

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon dried ginger

2 teaspoons cinnamon

Frosting: instead of using Miss Lee’s yogurt and honey frosting, we made really runny powered sugar and water frosting and we couldn’t make the cool purple color instead did dark green, green and yellow.

Glory thinking she needs to help out since Chef Gambler gets to make the cake.

MK not missing out on the fun.

Before we start I best taste the butter and make sure it is ok.

Chef Gambler here, checking to make sure the ingredients are correct.

Lets get down to business.

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350 F. Whisk the dry ingredients together in a large bowl and set aside. Beat together the bananas and butter in a medium bowl until creamy. Beat in water and then eggs one at a time. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and combine. Pour the batter into a prepared Bundt pan and bake for 35 minutes.  (per Miss Lee)

Beater licking time.

Miss Lee says we should hide a treat instead of a plastic baby in the cake.

Nellie stepping in to make sure I’m doing it right.

Yup I agree Nellie, it is done right.

This cooking is hard work, I best sit a spell.

Ta Da, time to frost.

I think you missed a spot with frosting.

It’s ready for the taste test.

Are we ever going to get out of these giddy ups and eat the cake?

Nom, nom, nom.

More nom, nom, nom.

Cousin Oakley trying it out.

Cousin Chloe eating her share.

Thank you Miss Lee for your recipe again. We had fun making this cake and so far it is 3/4 the way gone and no one has gotten the “treat” yet. What would make this even better is if we were down visiting you during Fat Tuesday and all the festivities.

The King cake looks as if it’s a huge success and Chef Gambler does a fantastic job keeping the rest of the gang involved in the art of baking, so glad he even includes MK~

    Hi Y’all!

My Human Papa has been tryin’ to get my Human Mama to make a pan of chocolate brownies for him or another apple cobbler. If Mama is procrastinatin’ making Papa treats, what do y’all think the chances are that she’ll make me a King cake?

    Y’all come on by,
