Glory’s Pregnancy Ultrasound

Glory was bred via surgical AI December 9th 2015 you can read all about the procedure HERE. She was bred to Lzy Mtn Piper’s 3-D Brown Bear SH at Veterinary Village in Lomira, WI this is where I go for all my reproduction needs.

A short recap of the breeding. Glory came into heat just before Thanksgiving. Seven days into her heat cycle I started doing progesterone tests on her, that is where I had blood drawn and sent it to a lab or if I was at Veterinary Village for the test they just ran it at the clinic. The results of the progesterone test told us when she was going to ovulate so we knew when we would need to do the surgical AI, this all had to be precise to hopefully insure a pregnancy.  Once she was ready to be bred I took her back to Veterinary Village for the procedure.

After the procedure Glory needed to be kept quite while the incision in her abdomen healed. I was sent home with the dates of future events for this breeding.

The timeline.

The timeline.

A month has passed and it is now time to have Glory’s ultrasound done to confirm a pregnancy. I had a feeling she was pregnant as she was showing the same signs this time as she did with her last pregnancy but that doesn’t always guarantee a pregnancy as if they are not bred they can go into a false pregnancy and exhibit the same signs.

Hey I remember this place, I walked in just fine and then I walked out with little ones on board.

Dr. Greer performed the ultrasound while Devin and Alisa cuddled Glory during the procedure.

And the verdict is: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven…….at least seven little puppies seen. Now remember last pregnancy Dr. Greer saw 5 and she ended up with 11 and then 8 to go to their new homes.

We are super excited that the surgical AI worked and that in one more month we will have little burr heads in our house again and then let the adventure begin!

Glory has Nationwide Pet Insurance

Glory has Nationwide Pet Insurance

Last fall right before Glory went into heat I signed her up for pet insurance. I chose Nationwide since they had the overall best coverage that included reproduction work. To my knowledge no other pet insurance covers reproduction. My coverage started December 2, 2015 I submitted 4 claims one being the surgical AI. Nationwide covered my veterinary expenses 90% minus my $100.00 deductible. I got my reimbursement checks within 2 weeks of  submitting them. I will be submitting this latest ultrasound on Glory as well. I will write more about Nationwide later.

The next stage in Glory’s pregnancy will be the radiograph on February 2, 2016 to count skeletons and get an idea of how many puppies Glory will have.

Congratulations! We have had VPI which is now Nationwide for almost eight years now and are very happy with it. They have paid all our claims, and never had any issues. Can’t wait for the puppies.

I didn’t know there was a surgical AI. Is it usually more successful than a regular AI? I too saw the C-Section date and wondered about it……

They have been having very good success with surgical AI it was the way to go if using frozen but now they are doing transcervical so frozen can be used that way. We have a csec planned but only if she has a large number litter
