Early Birthday Prezzie~Monday Mischief

Gambler turns 4 this Wednesday, stop back then to wish him a Happy Birthday and enter his Birthday Prezzie Pack giveaway. Since I won’t be able to spend time with him on his Birthday we had a little party before I left.

On a side note I wanted to let you all know that even know I don’t have any pictures yet but was told I have some coming, Gambler passed his first AKC Master Hunter test this weekend with John handling him. He finally broke the ice so hopefully he will continue to pass and achieve that title. What a great early Birthday prezzie to himself even know he doesn’t know it. Big treat’s for him when I get home.

Gambler’s 3rd Birthday With A Giveaway

Today the Gman turns THREE. He was a Friday the 13th puppy and let me tell you he has made that known with his mass destruction. Even with all his mass destruction I wouldn’t trade him for anything. He makes me smile and keeps my day’s interesting and gives me many blog post’s to write about. What more could you want?

Now onto the presents and cards.

When I got home from work last Friday there was a package there addressed to Gambler and I. I had no idea who it was from or what it was. Here is a video of Gambler opening his present.

Gambler would like to give a high paw to his pals Rudy, Rosie and Jeffie over at Talking-Dogs for the lovely surprise and bag of treats. It was so nice of you to think of the Gman. Gambler would also like to thank of his pal across the pond Easy Rider for the wonderful Birthday card, his staff did such a great job personalizing this card, we love it!

Monday Mischief ~Birthday Boy

My Mischief started 2 years ago on Friday the 13th with the birth of my #1 mischief maker. He was “lime green boy” one of 8 puppies out of my male HRCH Sand Spring Norm Of Caroway MH and HRCH Hope Springs Dowry MH***

I wanted a light male if there was one and low and behold there was one and he was all mine. I brought him home at 7 weeks of age, gave him the name of “Gambler” nicknamed “Gman, G$, Giblet, Giebler” from that day forward he has been the biggest mischief maker I have had so far. Norman and Nellie were easy pups, not this guy. Maybe it was because I brought his sister Marie home with me to. She would stay with me for 5 months waiting for her time to be able to fly to the UK. I used to call these two the terrorist or the gruesome twosome. They were always into something. What one didn’t think of the other one thought of. They kept me on my toes and at the time I thought to my self I would never get 2 pups at the same time again!

Gambler has helped me clean out my house as he would get into lots of mischief by chewing on anything not bolted down. He broke more knick knacks than I can count on 2 hands, he has destroyed more area rugs than any dog I have ever owned. He loved to eat candles, wood, dog beds……..Needless to say my house is less cluttered. All the time he was destroying stuff he has wormed his way into my heart. I have wanted a Norman pup ever since Norman was old enough to reproduce. It took me 8 years and I finally got one and I wouldn’t trade him for any other dog in the world. He is the most gentle guy, he cleans my face raw with his kisses, he always sleeps curled up in a ball up by my head with his head laying on my chest sometime during the night. He is so quite also, while all the other dogs will bark when they hear a noise, he will just look around at what they are barking at. He hardly ever makes a peep. I think I heard him bark at something two times. He will thou do the chessie roo when he is excited. He will grab anything he can get in his mouth and roo while he is running around with the item in his mouth. He will also roo when he is getting reprimanded as if to tell us what four!

In the past 2 years I have gotten his UKC conformation title on him along with being the #1 chessie in the 2012 UKC Top Ten breed standing, he has gotten his UKC Started Hunter title as well as his AKC Junior Hunter title. I have also trained him to hunt upland and waterfowl, he as already been to Canada snow goose hunting. He is turning out to be one heck of a dog, friend, companion, and possibly a new soulmate (right now daddy Norman is my soulmate).

After all the titles I have gotten on him his registered name looks like this now: SHR U-CH Sand Spring Ev’ry Paw’s A Winner JH. Hopefully one day those titles will change and become bigger better ones in there place.

I had a great Birthday party. I had to celebrate this past weekend as mom was out of town for work on my Birthday. We had tons of fun. I got to bop for hotdogs, pop balloons, open presents, eat cake, wear different outfits. The other doggies in the house got to wear my birthday hats and eat cake. What a grand time I had.

Happy 5th Birthday to Nellie’s First Litter

The year of 2007 I did all kinds of research on who would be Nellie’s first boyfriend. After all that research I had decided to use a stud dog from out west. Washington to be exact. His name is HRCH CH INTL CH* Nordom’s Apache Rebel MH WDQ.

“Rebel” is a dark brown handsome fellow with many great accomplishments. Besides passing 22 Master Hunter tests in a row, he has qualified for Master Nationals the last 4 years with becoming a Master National finalist in 2006. He has also passed 9 UKC Finished tests in a row. He is a reliable dog in competition and a consistent finisher. While being fast, stylish and an excellent marker he will also run great lines on his blinds. He has proven himself in the field as well as in the Conformation ring by receiving his American and International show titles with a group placement when his owner was showing him to his IABCA International Show title. When Rebel isn’t training or competing he is also out hunting upland birds and waterfowl.

This was a vaginal AI done at Veterinary Village in Lomira, WI. Now the wait was on. Nellie’s due date was the week of Christmas that year. This was my first breeding hence my first litter, so it was all new to me. Even know I am a Veterinary Technician and have the knowledge, I didn’t have the experience. Nellie did super during her whole pregnancy, she was able to go hunting with us, play with Norman and go where ever we went.

Just after midnight the day of Christmas Nellie went into labor and delivered 7 beautiful little puppies. She had 2 boys and 5 girls. All were the same color and around the same size.

One puppy went to Washington, one went to Ohio, one went to Idaho, two went to Minnesota, one went to Colorado and one stayed in Wisconsin. The puppy that went to Minnesota we get to hunt with each year in Canada, our relationship has turned into a really nice friendship. Pearl has turned out to be a really nice hunter and fun to be around. We still get to see Savannah in Wisconsin, she is fun loving and loves to play with her tennis ball. Jessie in Ohio has her Therapy Dog International dog title and does therapy work with Hospice patients.

Happy 5th Birthday to Jessie, Pearl, LuLu, Savannah, Huck, Kessler and Nelly. May you have many more Birthdays to come.

Happy 3rd Birthday to Nellie’s 09 Litter

3 years ago today Nellie had her second litter of little burr heads. In the end of September beginning of October 09 Nellie went with John and I to Canada to hunt snow geese. She went into heat right before we were going and we figured out that she would be in prime time heat just as we were heading home from our hunt. She had a great time in Canada and was right on schedule in her heat to be in standing heat when we got home. The day we got home she went to her boyfriends house and spent the next week there.

One month later we ultra sounded her and confirmed a pregnancy.

Happy Birthday Glory – 1 year old

Today Glory is one year old. UCH Sand Spring No Gut’s No Glory. Glory was born 12/4/11, her mom is HRCH Sand Spring Hurricane Nellie SH, her father is CH Port Side’s Great Xpecations MH. She was the first born out of 4 girls. This was a very carefully planned breeding as it was going to be the last litter I had with Nellie and I knew I would be keeping a puppy from this litter to carry on the Sand Spring line. I researched and researched DC/AFC Bertram’s Blazing Firewater MH line and knew I wanted a puppy from Blaze’s line. I was lucky enough to meet Ron & Ginny along with Lefty at the 2011 American Chesapeake Field Specialty. Lefty is a Blaze son, I chose Lefty because of his pedigree both mom and dad are accomplished and measuring up Nellie’s pedigree with Lefty I thought it would be a perfect match and would have some really nice pups that would do what they were bred for which is hunt and run competition along with being within breed standards.

Nellie came into heat the end of September so that meant she couldn’t go on our snow goose hunt in Sasketchewan. It turned out when running the progesterone tests that she would be ready to be surgically AI’ed the day we would be scheduled to leave to Canada. We kept out plans and Grandma was nice enough to take Nellie to the reproduction veterinarian to have her surgery and kept her at her house while we were gone. 33 days later we got a confirmed pregnancy and on 12/4/11 the sisters were born.

Nellie’s 8th Birthday

A good time was had by all.

10/7/12 was Nellie’s 8th Birthday. She just returned home from a week hunting in Saskatchewan and she got quite the home-coming with a Birthday cake. Misty Shore’s Chesapeakes was nice enough to share their Birthday blog with us so we used the same recipe they used since her dogs loved it. Take a moment to hop on over to their blog and take a peak at what their chesapeakes are up to. Thank you Misty Shore’s for letting me use your recipe, it was easy to cook and my gang loved it also.

Here is the recipe for those of you who would like to try it also for upcoming occasions.

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 cup corn oil
4 oz. jar baby food, meat, beef, chicken, lamb (I used chicken and rice)
4 eggs
2 Tablespoons real bacon bits
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour an 8x5x3 inch loaf pan. Mix first five ingredients together until smooth. Add bacon bits and mix.
