Early Birthday Prezzie~Monday Mischief

Gambler turns 4 this Wednesday, stop back then to wish him a Happy Birthday and enter his Birthday Prezzie Pack giveaway. Since I won’t be able to spend time with him on his Birthday we had a little party before I left.

Birthday treats.

Oh look I got a mustache, I’m a man now that I am 4 years old.

Do you think there will be less mischief in Gamblers life now that he will be turning 4?

On a side note I wanted to let you all know that even know I don’t have any pictures yet but was told I have some coming, Gambler passed his first AKC Master Hunter test this weekend with John handling him. He finally broke the ice so hopefully he will continue to pass and achieve that title. What a great early Birthday prezzie to himself even know he doesn’t know it. Big treat’s for him when I get home.

Senior Wellness ~ Nellie’s Health Series Part 2: Vaginitis

Today’s Monday Mischief post is the second in the six part series on Nellie’s Health Series. This post should of come after the urinalysis post since this is how I found out Nellie has vaginitis but I thought this made for a mischief post so bear with me on the order.

Monday: Senior Wellness ~ Nellie’s Health Series Part 2: Vaginitis (when your male dog sticks his face where it doesn’t belong may mean there is a problem).

What you mean this is a problem? I don’t think it’s a problem at all!

Yes, yes you recognized the culprit, it’s the Gman to the rescue to tell you there might be a problem with Nellie. Gambler is constantly sticking his face where it doesn’t belong.

A frequent scene at out house.

After we got the results of the bloodwork the doctor wanted a urinalysis done on Nellie’s urine (more on that this Thursday). I got a urine sample, ran the urinalysis and the results were “are the white cells coming from the bladder or from the vaginal tract”, we needed to rule out a “bladder infection” vs a “vaginitis”.

I’m telling ya “Dr. G” says there is a problem Houston!

In order to find out where the white cells were originating from (bladder vs vagina) we needed to collect a sterile urine sample that came right from the bladder (more on that Wednesday). The sterile urine sample had no white blood cells in it so it ruled out a bladder infection in which I didn’t think she had a bladder infection because she wasn’t showing any signs of an infection which are: frequent urination, blood in urine, accidents in the house.

The supplies needed to check for a vaginitis.

To find out if the white blood cells were coming from the vaginal tract we needed to a vaginal cytology. In order to do this you take a sterile long q-tip wet it with water and then insert it into the vagina and roll to pick up the cells. You then put that sample on a microscope slide, stain it then read it.

View from the microscope.

The big round purple cells are epithelial cells which are normal in the vagina, all skin contains epithelial cells. All the other small purple structures are bacteria which ranged from cocci to rods. Some bacteria is normal as it isn’t a sterile environment but this slide contains too numerous of bacteria which means there is a problem. There were a few white cells but not like what was seen in the urine sample. The urine sample I ran was the first morning catch (which is the one the doctor wants to interpret the results correctly) so the white blood cells had time to collect in the vaginal tract and then be flushed out with the first urine sample. My boss wanted another urine sample from later in the day and there were a few white blood cells in that one so if not flushed out there is more white blood cells. Now why are these white cells present? It can be a normal vaginitis or it could mean there is a mass in the vaginal canal that is causing it. Nellie’s diagnosis is a vaginitis but after research on other cases like hers we decided not to treat the vaginitis because again she isn’t showing any symptoms of a problem so we are going to leave it alone until a problem arises. Why, well because if we start treating with antibiotics to get rid of the white cells and bacteria it may disrupt the balance and then she will show signs in the future and have to be continually treated. I am going to start her on a probiotic to see if we can’t get the bacteria balance back to normal.

Can Gambler stay out of my backend now?

ahhhhh NO!

I will check Nellie in a few weeks and if we get the same results we will look further as to why the white cells are present but for now we will leave her alone, well at least I will leave her alone. Gambler has other ideas.

Stop back tomorrow for:
Tuesday: Senior Wellness ~ Nellie’s Health Series Part 3: Bloodwork, why routine bloodwork is a good idea.

Monday Mischief ~Slipper Fun

What kind of fun can you have with slippers and who do you think was having so much fun?

…………………

……………….

…………..

……….

…..

..

.

Once again while I was in the shower the mischief happened. I got out of the shower, went to grab my towel and it was gone. I already know who took it as Gambler is the only one that steals my towels and takes them into the bedroom to lay on them.

photo 4

This is what I saw when I found Gambler and my towel.

photo 2

Gambler got so excited when he saw me he jumped up on the bed and started to chew on the slipper on the bed.

photo 1

If there was a video right now you would hear him “rooing” as he really is proud of himself. He is proud that he has wrecked many slippers. Of course these are John’s slippers as he doesn’t put his up.

photo 3

I then look out the bedroom door and who do I see with the other slipper? Miss Glory but she wasn’t chewing her’s she was protecting it from Gambler the slipper wrecker.

I thought he would of grown out of the slipper destruction stage. I guess not!

Don’t forget to stop back tomorrow and wish Gambler a Happy 3rd Birthday and enter his giveaway for a handmade paracord collar. He will be giving three away.

Walk Your Dog With Mischief Monday Hop

What??? Mischief while walking your dog??? No Way!!!

Yes way when it comes to the Sand Spring Gang!

Last week we finally got off our butts, hooked up the leashes, three to be exact and headed off for a walk. We headed down the road on a nice walk to the river…..

Off on a leisurely walk, minding our own business.

When we turn the corner and come upon our brother-in-laws house we see this on the side of the road that we had to pass by…..

3 cat's eating by the burn pile.

I did all I could do to drag the dogs past and then we ran into this……

Rosco (niece's dog) the yellow lab visiting the neighbors house.

Nellie was telling big stories to Rosco as I dragged her by, Gambler and Glory thought it was a playmate. We finished our walk to the river where…..

We saw the river was open.

Gambler found something to roll in at the river, all of them found a carcass to eat on and carry the bones back with them. They thought it was a great walk.

A couple days later we grabbed the leashes again and headed off in a different direction. This direction consisted of walking up one big hill through the woods. It was a damp dreary day but be braved it and off we went.

Up the hill to the mischief.

When all of a sudden out of no where’s this appeared…..

A squirrel crossed the road getting the dogs all excited.

All the dogs were pulling and trying to run to chase the squirrel I thought to myself with all the weight of three dogs I (130#) was trying to hold back 210# of dogs. That is a whole lot of weight if you ask me!

We continued on our walk and then on the way back home we stopped at the creek and had a little fun under the bridge.

We had a great couple of days of walking, hopefully there will be more to come with no mischief attached.

Monday Mischief~Helpers

Of course I had to go shopping Thanksgiving night for all the super duper sales that were going on. I did manage to get a couple of items that were on sale. One was a Bissell Pet Carpet Cleaner for $99.00. This will come in handy for my next litter of pups and for all the mischief spills the pooches do until that time.

The next hot item I bought was  2 island chairs with backs. They were only $50.00 for the two of them. Usually I see them normally for $39.00 for one so I thought this was a great deal.

The mischief came to play when John started putting the chairs together, he had a couple of helpers.

Monday Mischief~Ruff Night #2

Remember yesterday for Black And White Sunday Gambler had a Ruff Night picture posted, if you missed it here it is again.

DSC_0465

Bet you all were wondering why Gman had a ruff night? He really had a ruff afternoon at the AKC hunt test he entered that lead into a ruff night. Gambler and I were running a senior stake, Glory and I were running a junior stake. First to run was Gambler, he did a double on land, the live flyer station he had a bit of a hunt of it wasn’t bad and then he lined the blind (meaning he ran a straight path right to the blind). So I thought all went well. We then went over to juniors to run Glory. She had a live flyer first and she was so ampt’ed up she was bolting a head while I was still holding her. Once the judge released us she took off ran straight to the flyer, stopped short and hunted the area. Hunted and hunted and hunted and came back without the bird. Thank you for your donation to the club. So back to running Gman on water. He did his 2 water marks great now it was time for the blind. The wind had really picked up by now and there was a cross wind going across the pond he needed to swim to get to the other side to pick up his blind on land. He started off great on a straight line then he got off kilter and headed to the nearest point (the judge’s told us they didn’t want them to get on that point). I tried and tried to get him off the point but he had his mind made up. He then went left of the blind and wouldn’t take my cast’s to the blind as once again he thought he new best where it was. He was wrong and since he didn’t listen to me he got to come back with out the bird and a fail.

Soooooo that lead to a bid of mischief of drowning his sorrows and Glory’s since she failed too in a little wine.

Glory in disguise so no one knew she was hitting the bottle.

DSC_0467

Gambler “Lookie, lookie Glory what I found”! “It’s a bottle of Rivers Gold.”

Glory “Perfect, I could use a little glass of wine to drown my sorrows.”

DSC_0472

Glory “Do you think they will know it was us that drank two bottles of wine?”

Gambler “Nope, not a chance.”

The pooches party continued Sunday night as Glory ran another junior test on Sunday. She passed land but failed on water as the first water mark was a long mark across the pond up on the shore back against a tree line. She wouldn’t even get in the water. So much mischief was had by all this weekend.

DSC_0462

Gambler & Glory, “Now here we sit with a hangover”! “Instead of a three dog night we had a two dog night twice and boy it was a ruff one.”

Monday Mischief ~Gman & The Rug

When I come home and let the dogs out of the kennel each one of them usually has to grab something and carry around. It varies as to what they grab, usually whatever is laying around. Gman’s favorite thing to grab is the rugs laying in front of his kennel. He grabs them and runs outside with them. He then proceeds to run around the yard with one. Of course he leaves them lay so I need to go out and pick them up. Sometimes I will get a Roo Roo with the rug carrying. This trick is thanks to Norman as he is our first dog to do this and he passed his trait on to his kids and grand daughter. Norman will live on!
