A little of this and a little of that and everything in between…

The Hunt Test

This past Sunday Gambler and I ran our second AKC Senior hunt test. We did so well thru the land series we were called back to the water series. We ran our marks great then it was time for the water blind. Poor Gambler lost it on the water blind. He needed to cross a similar spot where the land blind was planted to get into the water to get his blind on the other side in the cattails and I could not get him off the bank and into the water. He knew his land blind was along the bank so he just knew the water blind had to be there also and wouldn’t get into the water, this isn’t uncommon for young dogs to do this. They run one way and they think the next time is suppose to be the same way. There were other dogs doing the same thing on the water blind as Gambler and getting really off line but their handlers could get them in the water and they were able to cast them to the blind so they passed. Needless to say we failed the test. More training for next time and hopefully we can click and get’er done.

John was the photographer at the test and he did a mighty fine job.

The start of the land series. A double with a diversion shot and a land blind. Marks were thrown left side first and then the live flyer on the right.

I got this live flyer no problem.

Second mark and diversion shot.

Really looking for where the mystery bird went down. The judge did complement me on how that is what a dog should do when a diversion shot goes off, they should look and mark the next fall so they know where they are going to (this was a diversion shot to let us/dog know there will be a blind next).

And that is where the photos end.

Nellie’s playing dead video.

A couple of weeks ago Flea at Jones Natural Chews posted up some videos of animals playing dead. I’m like “Nellie can play dead, I will have to video tape it for her” so I did and here is her video.

Nellie playing dead.

Speaking of Jones Natural Chews I am embarrassed to admit that I have been buying these chews for years now and never realized that they were from Jones Natural Chews. I buy my treats and chews at Mills Fleet Farm and when I went there the other day I finally noticed the BIG display they had. I of course had to load up on treats for Gamblers Birthday coming up.

So the land blind was on the edge of the water? That water blind sounds very difficult (and a bit unfair for a Senior test). Glad you got through most of it. Next time you will pass. 🙂

Thanks so much for participating in TNT!
