Rufus Tuesday’s Tales

The gentle giant.

The gentle giant.

Look at Rufus the gentle giant playing with my puppy blue girl. A first hand look at how sweet this 18 month old rescued Newfie is. I got the privilege of meeting Rufus this past weekend at the ACC WI Chessie Fun Day that I hosted. This guy hung around many peeps adult and children. He met many dogs adult and puppies. You couldn’t have asked for a nicer boy. He was happy to just hang out and get pets from everyone. He also made his way down to the pond and took a dip in the pond to cool off on the beautiful warm day we had.

Some photos from the fun day:

Rufus even swims.

Rufus is up for adoption through CRROW – Chesapeake Retriever Rescue Of Wisconsin. Here is what CRROW says about Rufus:

My name is Rufus and I am a silver/taupe Newfoundland. I was surrendered to Chessie Rescue of WI by my family because I was too big and energetic.

I am currently enrolled in a training program to receive a thorough evaluation of my training needs. I will not be available for adoption until after April 30th at the earliest.

So far this is what we have found out about Rufus:

  • Rufus LOVES attention and is very smart. He loves to be in the middle of things and gets bored quickly.
  • Rufus likes most dogs but does not have proper play methods. Rufus gets too exuberant and because of his size he can hurt his playmates. We are working on this.
  • Rufus has displayed some food aggression towards other dogs which is why he was surrendered. We are working on this.
  • Rufus will require
    • experienced Newfie or other working breed owners
    • a fenced yard
    • brushing multiple times a week if not daily for awhile
    • frequent grooming appointments for trimming which may exceed $100/appointment.
  • Rufus is a handsome boy with a great personality but he will require a commitment to training and socialization.

If you are interested in me, please complete an adoption application for Rufus.
Visitations can be arranged after you have a completed and approved application.

Adopt Ginger During Adopt A Senior Pet Month

November is Adopt A Senior Pet Month. I don’t think it should be November but each month of the year. There are so many pets that are seniors that are looking for their forever homes for the time they have left. These animals are most likely house trained, know commands, spayed or neutered so there isn’t much you have to do with them besides give them lots of love.

How about giving Ginger a forever home!

Ginger Adoptable Chessie

Ginger is a 7 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever at Chesapeake Retriever Rescue Of Wisconsin (CRROW).

What CRROW says about Ginger:

Ginger was a surrender due to health of an older owner… Although Ginger is 7, she likes to retrieve, but can also entertain herself .

Ginger is spayed, and current on her vaccines and also chipped. She is very obedient and loves to be loved. She does not get into anything in the home, but if needed is crate trained and goes in on command with no arguments whatsoever.

The ideal home for Ginger will be with someone who will take her for rides and play with her in the yard.. She LOVES the car rides and is very, very good in the car. GINGER ABSOLUTELY NEEDS TO BE THE ONLY DOG IN THE HOME. She is not a candidate for dog parks or other social events with other dogs.

Ginger is a smiler and a rooer also. She smiles a lot when something is new to her or she is happy, and roos and talks when she is excited also. She is good at the vet’s office and was great getting her nails cut at the vet and at grooming. She is a special girl.

GINGER REQUIRES A PHYSICAL FENCED YARD-NOT NEGOTIABLE. PRIVACY FENCE WOULD BE THE BEST FOR HER.

St. Patrick’s Day Treats~Tasty Tuesday

A while ago I was lucky enough to win 2 giveaways from Oz The Terrier, I won the Canine Cooking book and Honest Kitchens Beef & Bone Broth. Since St. Patrick’s Day was coming up I grabbed the cookbook thumbed through the cookbook to see what I could make for the little green pooches.

I found the recipe Cheeseburger Chow. In the recipe it called for beef broth and I knew I had the perfect beef broth to try out. I grabbed the Honest Kitchens Beef & Bone Broth read the instructions and gave it a try and OMD I wanted to try it.

To make the broth you start with a cup of hot water and then add 2 tablespoons of dehydrated mix to the water and mix well.

Being that Gambler was the chef again this day he thought he should sniff the Beef & Bone broth, and when you sniff that leads to trying because you know it is all so good.

The recipe called for 5 cups of oats, one cup of beef broth and 1 cup of Parmesan cheese. Mix all the ingredients together, roll out, cut into shapes you would like and bake at 350 for 30 minutes. I of course added some food coloring to go along with the green theme.

The pooches had a little green beer with their treats, they weren’t driving so they could drink as much as they wanted. You can see by the pictures the bones smelled really good Glory couldn’t help herself she just had to try one.

The pooches jumped up and down and went gaga for these treats I think they were a big hit!

May the Irish hills caress you;
may her lakes and rivers bless you;
may the luck of the Irish enfold you;
may the blessings of St Patrick behold you

Tuesdays Tail’s~Ben The Chessie At CRROW

BenInSnow

Pictures and information taken from CRROW’s website.

My name is Ben the Chessie  and I am an active Chesapeake Bay Retriever who is approximately 2 years old. I was a stray in central Illinois and came into rescue at the end of December, 2014  Here are some of the facts:

  • I love people! I love adults and older children. I’m so excited to see them and be pet! I should not be around small children or infants because I am too energetic.
  • I have so much energy that I can go for a 2 mile run and I only look slightly winded when we are done!
  • I am fine with cats and dogs.
  • I walk well on a leash and do not react to noise or odd things happening around me.
  • I will require a fenced yard since I was found as a stray.

I need some work on my manners as I am a bit of a grabber. I love to play fetch but am over zealous and try to get the toy before it is thrown. I am not good at dropping my toys or my treasurers. I am learning that “finder, keeper” does not always apply. My house manners are not great. I am very curious and like to get into everything so I am learning how to behave and what is appropriate. I am a quick learner but I need a patient and consistent teacher.

I am the happiest sweetest boy who would be happy with an active family!

Please contact CRROW and help find this boy his forever home.

Gamblers New Job and 2 Tuesday’s Tails

Gambler stayed at my friends house when I went on vacation. He had 11 days of work which to him was fun work. He was doing what he was bred for….hunting, retrieving, more hunting and more retrieving. Justin is a hunting guide for All Seasons Adventures in Wisconsin. This time of year he is duck, goose and pheasant hunting. He takes clients out hunting and on his off days he is hunting with his friends so each day some type of hunting is going on. Unfortunately Justin’s Chesapeake Riley tore her ACL and needed surgery so she is out for the hunting season which left Justin without a pick up dog. Since I was going to be on vacation and Gambler was going to be in his kennel keeping out of mischief I thought he might as well have a job. He fit right in at Justin’s home, his new job kept him busy and tired which meant no mischief was to be had. Here are some pictures of Gambler and his new job.

First hunt was with Glory as pick up dog also.

Mallard retrieved.

Mallard retrieve.

Some nice canvasbacks.

Goose hunt.

Banded goose.

Gambler not being left behind.

Pheasant hunt.

Guarding his birds.

Another pheasant hunt.

He also had a job of guarding Cassie’s office with Riley.

Selfies in down time to show he’s not getting into any mischief.

Extra loving from Danica.

Chesapeakes are known to be one person dogs, that they don’t like to hunt for other people than the person who trained them. Gambler has shown that he can get along well with others and has done a great job listening to Justin and following his direction. He has had many blind retrieves also. Gambler hopefully has learned to trust his handler and realize that this is a team sport and will be better at his hunt tests next year. He sure is getting a lot of experience hunting this fall. This isn’t the end of hunting with Justin either, he will be back with him for more hunts.

ABOUT ROCKY 2

Rocky is an adult male Chessie who likes to swim and hike. He needs someone who is experienced in the breed or similar breeds. He would be the happiest as an only dog. No cats or small kids. He comes from very good lines. His co-owners now do not have time for him and really don’t have the knowledge to work with him and give him the space and exercise he needs. Rocky is still with his co-owners.A friend of the breeder is trying to find Rocky a good home. CRROW is not placing this boy nor have they done any evaluation on him.. It will be an owner adoption.

Sadie – From Pet Finder
Chesapeake Bay Retriever • Adult • Female • Large

Chesapeake Bay Retriever Rescue of WI Appleton, WI

Sadie

Sadie

ABOUT SADIE

Sadie is a 7 year old female dead grass Chessie that is new to CRROW. Sadie weighs 77 pounds, and is spayed. She is also recovering from LYME disease . Sadie has all of her vaccines, and is micro chipped also.

Sadie is very sweet with people. She is a good rider-very quiet in the car. She walks well on lead also. She LOVES everyone and is ok with kids. Sadie has the typical “I want to be right by you” Chessie trait.

When Sadie was very young she was attacked by another dog (which is why she doesn’t like other dogs). She lost most of the vision in her right eye due to this. Our vet said she can probably see shadows, but no real vision in that eye.

Sadie will need a home where she is the only special dog due to that attack when she was young.. She cannot be with cats, A required fenced yard will give her the access to exercise and fun, and not allow her to chase cars, as she did when she was an outside , unsupervised dog.

For more information about Sadie, contact sue@crrow,org. An application can be found on www.crrow.org
