May 18th National Therapy Animal Day

We are a little behind the eight ball on the first annual National Therapy Animal Day. It was this past Monday on May 18th. Since I have been doing therapy work with Gambler and Glory for over a year now I wanted to share this day with everyone even know it has passed. Animal therapy is so important to children and adults as well as to the therapy animals handler. I feel so much joy after a therapy visit with one of my dogs. To see what these animals can do to brighten the day’s of others is something I can’t describe. Some may ask me why I subject my “hunting dogs” to costumes that “real” dogs don’t wear costumes I beg to differ. My friend gave me a template for some fake money that I could put a picture of my dog on and give to the kids. I Put Gambler with his G$ glasses on on the money. I printed them off, cut them out and had the kids play with the money as well as playing with Gambler. After their time was up I told them they could keep some of the money. You should of seen the kids faces when I told them that! They asked me if I was for real and that they could really keep it, yes you can keep it. That is why I dress my dogs up in costumes, so they can make someone else’s day brighter.

I am not a member of Pet Partners, I am a member of Therapy Dogs Inc. It doesn’t matter what group you are members of all that matters to me is that you are out spreading the therapy love with your animal.

It is so nice they are celebrating this. One should never underestimate the benefit of an animal when someone is ill or dying. They can bring so much comfort.

I didn’t know about a therapy day for dogs so thanks for letting me know! Mom is just now trying to figure out training for therapy dogs because she thinks Taffy would be great to take to nursing homes. Love Dolly

It takes the right person to do therapy work with or without a dog. My mom would not be good at it at all and has no desire, but so many people do love it and so do their dogs. It is a wonderful thing for those it helps and if you enjoy it.

A Friend that works with Therspy dogs was training Mica, she so laid back and love to be petted. But Mica can’t handle the noises going off all the time and people all over. I think it’s great the Gman and Glory are helping people to have better days and bringing smiles to so many people:)
