Pheasant Hunting With Red

This is Red she is Gambler and Choptank’s daughter, she will be turning 2 the end of April. She came down and visited us this past weekend. The last time she pheasant hunted was last year when she was just a year old. Once she got on a scent she immediately started working and following her nose to the bird, she flushed it up, the hunter shot and then she marked the bird down and completed the retrieve. It was fun watching this girl work, after the first bird she let us know she knew what was expected and off she went.

She a lean mean little machine weighing in at 55-60 lbs, that doesn’t slow her down at all it actually makes it easier for her to move through the thick brush, marsh grass and woods. She mainly is a woodcock and grouse dog so being small and quick is perfect for her.  It was a joy to spend the weekend with her and Rick.

She’s a great looking dog. Cool pictures too. The one with her tongue out and the pheasant’s claw in the top corner is my favorite.
