FitDog Friday

k9kamp new badge 2014

I am joining in on K9 Kamp this year. The challenge is going on right now and running for the next two weeks. The challenge is hide and seek with your pooches. We completed one week of hide and seek and would like to post up a few pictures of our challenge.  I’ll be joining the Blog Hop on Feb, 21 2014 and sharing how our challenge went and signing up for a great give away the K9 Kamp Counselors are doing. Check it out! Be sure to stop over to all of the fine host’s (kamp counselors) and thank them for a great challenge Peggy’s Pet Place, Slimdoggy, and To Dog With Love.

Gambler and Glory are the only ones joining in on K9 Kamp since they are the one’s in hunt test training. Nellie got a few fun bumpers but isn’t doing the challenge.

While doing the challenge you can see they are getting in their FitDog Friday exercise also. We have deep snow so they really have to trudge through the deep snow in order to run, hop, walk or do what ever they want to do in it.

Thursday Barks And Bytes

BB3

Today’s Barks starts with my first therapy dog visit with Gambler and Glory. We received our certification on December 4th 2013.

DSC_0239 - Copy

Friday January 17, 2014 was our first visit at a elementary school. We visited a class with emotional, behavioral disorders. The children each get a allotted amount of time to read to Gambler and Glory. Each dog comes in alone with me and lays on their blanket that I made just for visits.

Both dogs had a great visit. Gambler was a little antsy as he wanted the cookie on the child’s desk that he had to stare at the whole visit so lesson learned. If cookies in the area ask the teacher to move them so Gambler pays attention to the student. Our next visit is tomorrow.

Another Bark: During the winter months we are lucky enough to have the Eagles visit us. We do feed them scrapes from our hunts so they are more apt to stick around which they have. Here are a few pictures of them. The first one is by my house the second ones are around the section from my house on my property by the marsh.

A gambler funny for today….

A friend of mine dropped off a fox for John to skin and sell the hide. Gambler being the big brave boy that he is was so afraid of the fox. He did ask the fox a question so lets all listen and see what Gamber asks.

Easy & Frankbooth Come back next Thursday during Barks And Bytes and find out who the lucky lady is.

Rescue success! Today I am happy to say I have a rescue success story. A couple weeks ago you might have seen my blog post about my friend passing away and her animals going to the shelter. You can read about it here.
I had Cooper  until I found a home for him which only took 2 days but I kept him for a week to work on his re potty training and for us to have our time to grieve over my friend and his mom.

I will still get to see Cooper and follow along with his life as he was adopted by my boss’s nanny. She will be using our clinic for her vet services and my boss will keep me informed on how the little bugger is doing. The report today is that Cooper is now being switched to adult food as he as lost weight getting exercise playing with my boss’s kids. He is doing great with his re potty training and has wormed his way into his new owner’s hearts. I believe this was the best choice for Cooper and happy he is in a loving home and that he found a home so soon after his shelter stay. A rescue success!

Since I am sharing my rescue success story about my friends dog I thought it was only appropriate to finished this post with a tribute to my departed friend. After seeing her obituary in the paper I needed to do a proper tribute to her as she so deserved that.

Here is what the paper said: Meyer, Susan (Nee Lipovsek ) Passed away Monday, January 13, 2014, age 67years. Dear sister of George (Karen) and John Lipovsek. Dear friend of JoAnn Stancer. Also survivied by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Private services were held.

Here is my tribute:

Susan J Meyer

4/14/46 – 1/13/14

Susan Jane Meyer of Greenfield, WI passed away 1/13/14 during a hospital stay for COPD. Sue worked for Allis Chalmers until they closed from there she traveled the US and Europe. She spend a few years in Texas where she met her beloved dog Bucky. Sue had a love for animals as it showed when she worked in various Veterinary Hospitals helping the client’s pet’s and then rescuing several dogs and cats that nobody else wanted. I JoAnn had the privilege of meeting Sue at the first clinic I worked in after I graduated from Veterinary Technician school, this was back in June of 1990. From then a beautiful long friendship had started and we ended up working at three different clinics together. At the various clinics she became good friends with some of the other staff and clients which she continued to see after her time in the clinic was done, she always showed up for our monthly girls night out evenings where we got together with the gals we used to work with, some of those gals I still work with. During this time Sue was there for me during the loss of my mom and dad at such a young age. If I was to have a second mom I told her it would of been her, Sue never had children and she told me the same that if she was to have a daughter she would’ve wanted one like me. She told me so many times that my parents would’ve been proud of what I became. That meant the world to me. After being a Veterinary Assistant her last job was at American Family Insurance where she worked in the legal department for over 10 years. She retired from American Family when her health declined from COPD. Sue loved  to gamble and traveled to other states to gamble. Her favorite place to go was Las Vegas, Sue was the first person to invite me along with her on one of her trips to Vegas and showed me the ropes. We stayed at the Westward Ho and she invited me to the famous “HO-waiaan Luau and Dinner, it was a time I will never forget. Sue loved Arizona and had hopes to retire there those dreams were cut short and she never made it there. She spend her time at her home in Greenfield with her animals. Sue was preceded in death by her mother and father, her animals Missy, Bucky, Pepper, Bicky, Josie, Elliott, Raymond, Stewie, & Oscar Meyer. She left behind her 2 brothers George and John, nephews, grand nephews and nieces as well as her dog Cooper who will miss hanging with his momma each and every day. God Bless you Sue may you be pain free caring for all the animals over the rainbow bridge. Sue’s ashes along with her animals will be spread on my property as well as some will be going to Vegas where she can forever pull the one arm bandit.

Monday Mischief ~Weatherbeeta Vs Gman

Since we are in the polar vortex in WI I broke down and bought Gambler a fleece Weatherbeeta dog jacket. I think it looks quite stunning on him what do you think?

I'm sexy and I know it.

I’m sexy and I know it.

What do we have here?

What do we have here?

If I really twist I can see what I got on my butt.

I think I got it now, just have to lift my leg up a bit.

Almost got it off.

Just about got it, one more pull.

Just about got it, one more pull.

Why do I have to wear a jacket and Glory doesn't?

Weatherbeeta won!

I bought this Weatherbeeta jacket from Amazon for 24.00 with shipping and it was well worth the investment. Nicely made and seems warm even know Gambler thought he didn’t want to wear it the first time I put it on he wears it now that the temperature is in the negative numbers.

Nothing But Norman #28

Happy Saturday Everyone!

Project16 - Copy - Copy - Copy - Copy

First off I have to say a big THANK YOU to my dear friend Dina who made me this beautiful bracelet in memory of Norman. The love for Norman still keeps coming in and I am so blessed to have such wonderful friends that make me smile when the days are sad.

1551705_10152125729374724_697019769_n

We are still in the polar vortex here in WI. Freezing cold snowy weather. So I dug into the archives for some more baby pictures of Norman just after we got him playing in the snow.

013 014

They claim we are going to have freezing weather though out February. So we will go back in time or so it will look like with baby Norman and John’s nephew in Sepia for our Sepia Saturday Blog Hop with Ruckus The Eskie.

003

John has twin nephews that were born in 1995, Brandon and Jordan. This is one of them holding baby Norman Christmas of 2000. I don’t know which one this is and at this years Christmas I asked John’s sister Kathy, her husband Gary, Grandma, the twin boys and their sister Becca which one this was and no one really knew. They thought Brandon but couldn’t be sure. I got a kick out of it!

Hope everyone has a great weekend and have a happy Sepia Saturday.

FitDog Friday~Not Your Normal Exercise Regimen

When it comes to Sand Spring Chesapeakes nothing is normal (if you haven’t figured that out already) so today for FitDog Friday we are doing Not Your Normal Exercise Regimen.

Normal? What's normal?

Normal? What’s normal?

What’s that you ask?

It’s where I decide to take Nellie, Gambler and Glory down to the creek for our exercise of the day. We have a bit of a walk/run to get to the creek so while we were on our way I look back and this is what I seen:

Jumping over the first ditch bank.

Jumping over the first ditch bank.

Glory decided to haul a chunk of firewood out with her on her run and Gman brought his stuffed elephant. Once we got to the creek I wondered what we were going to do and it dawned on me that the only thing I had to throw to get them some retrieving in was the elephant. So I chucked the elephant across the creek to the other side and they had to go get it.

Chuck the elephant over and they will follow.

Chuck the elephant over and they will follow.

Nellie and Glory climbing back out of the creek.

Nellie and Glory climbing back out of the creek.

Over again.

Over again.

Over again with Glory in the lead.

Over again with Glory in the lead.

Gambler trying to catch up.

Gambler trying to catch up.

Gambler the sly devil still beat her to the elephant and back across we come.

Gambler the sly devil still beat her to the elephant and back across we come.

Again in unison.

Again in unison.

Gambler a shy short so had to climb out.

Gambler was a little short so had to climb out.

The retrieve and back again.

The retrieve and back again.

In order to retrieve the elephant they had to go across to get it circle back and jump across the creek again then bring me the elephant to do it over and over again.

This is so much fun, I do it over and over again.

This is so much fun, I do it over and over again.

We take a break from jumping to work on our strength and play tug of war.

We take a break from jumping to work on our strength and play tug of war.

Mean while where is Miss Nellie when all this is going on? Miss Nellie is too smart in her old age to be jumping over the creek so many times so she was wondering around the creek bed and would climb out when she was finished.

This is one steep bank.

This is one steep bank.

I am strong, I can do it.

I am strong, I can do it.

I will run across the field for my exercise.

I will run across the field for my exercise.

Great fun was had by all.

Great fun was had by all.

So you can see Not Your Normal Exercise Regimen but hey we made do with what we had and the gang got there FitDog Friday in.

K9Kampbadge_250 The Sand Spring gang will be joining the K9 Kamp this year. This is a kamp for you and your dog showing the importance of staying fit with your dog. Thursday Barks And Bytes

BB3 I am happy to be joining Linda at 2browndawgs and Jodi at Heart Like A Dog for their very first Thursday Barks And Bytes blog hop.

For my Barks today I will share some photos from a pheasant hunt we did at Sand Spring Chesapeakes. I still have pheasants that I raised this spring in pens. The winter weather has been hard on them and on their pen. Their pen doors froze shut with the ice storm we had so I had to kick the door in to open it to water them so I decided it was time to have a little hunt so I didn’t have so many to take care of. It also let the dogs have some fun in the middle of winter when no hunting is going on. I asked my nephew Joey if he wanted to join in and of course he jumped at the chance so here is our hunt. Each dog was to get 4 pheasants a piece but we ended up only getting 11 of the 12 birds. Great time was had by all.

Nellie was first up on the hunt.

Miss Glory was next up.

Gambler was the last dog up, he got to hunt with Glory. I knew he would get to retrieve birds since he is faster than Glory but we needed both dogs out there as the birds got up and ran so we need more noses to find them.

Back in December Boingy Dog had a WagAware giveaway and I was lucky enough to win 2 WagAware pet charms. You can read about them from Boingy Dog here.

DSC_0856

I will be putting these charms on Gambler and Glory’s therapy dog collars. This is a great conversation starter on why one should adopt  a shelter dog or rescue one from a private organization. Thanks Boingy Dog!
